March Events in Cape Town & Surrounds

Celebrate the last of summer with these cool things to do in the Mother City

We have just entered the third month of the year and it promises to be a fun-filled 31 days. We are leaving summer behind (cue sad face) and entering autumn, but that doesn’t mean the excitement stops there. This month also boasts the public holiday Human Rights Day on 21 March, as well as the religious holiday Good Friday on 30 March.

OMMIBERG HARVEST CELEBRATION (3 MAR)
Navigate your way around eight wine farms as you enjoy nature’s bounty at the OmmiBerg Harvest Celebration. Enjoy a multitude of activities, many of which are family friendly. There will also be plenty of delicious foods on sale to keep the bellies satisfied. This year, the celebration includes henna tattoos, trailer and tractor rides, and wine slushies.

Cost: Tickets are available via Webtickets.co.za and cost R150/p and includes access to all the venues, a tasting glass, tasting coupons and free participation in selected events. Children under the age of 18 enter for free when accompanied by an adult. Tickets are also available at the gate on the day for R180/p.

CAPE TOWN CYCLE TOUR (11 MAR)
This annual sporting event is going completely “off the grid” by bringing in their own water for the Cycle Tour. After the event was cancelled last year due to severe wind conditions (damn you, south easter), cyclists are eager for this year’s event to take place without any hiccups.

Cost: Entries are now closed.

LOVE AND LIGHT FESTIVAL (3 MAR)
The epic Love and Light day festival is back for an action-packed 11 hours of fun. Taking place at Nelson Wine Estate in Paarl, this is the perfect way for you and your mates to end summer on a high note. Expect world-class local and international acts such as Morten Granau, DJ Emok and Phaxe.

Cost: Tickets are available via nutickets.co.za and cost R300/p to R350/p.

EARTH HOUR (24 MAR)
Join Earth Hour, the worldwide movement initiated by the World Wide Fund for Nature, that encourages individuals and communities to switch off all non-essential electric lights and devices for one hour – from 8:30pm to 9:30pm – on Saturday, 24 March. Let’s do it in the dark for this great cause.

Cost: Free

CAPE TOWN JAZZ FESTIVAL FREE CONCERT (20 MAR)
One of the highlights of the renowned Cape Town Jazz Festival each year is the free concert they put on for all to enjoy. It is a showcase of some of the best local and international contemporary jazz talent so absolutely unmissable. This free concert takes place at Green Market Square. The exact date and time is still to be announced but the Cape Town Jazz Festival happens on Friday, 23 and Saturday, 24 March.

Cost: Free

CAPE TOWN MOTOR SHOW (2–4 MAR)
The Cape Town Motor Show taking place at Sun GrandWest will feature, besides the epic cars, drifting, vintage car collections, mega trucks and its brand new edition, a 4x4 exhibition. Bring your children along and experience all things motorised – from motorbikes to exotic cars, and a fleet of automobile-related accessories too.

Cost: Tickets to the motor show are available online via online.computicket.com and cost R100/p for a general ticket for adults and R800/p for VIP tickets.

THE GALILEO OPEN AIR CINEMA (UNTIL APR 2018)
If the idea of cuddling up under the stars whilst watching a movie, munching popcorn and intermittently gazing at gorgeous surrounds appeals to you, then best you book to watch your favourite movie with The Galileo Open Air Cinema. Every week cinephiles can grab some popcorn (or other tasty gourmet treats from the exhibiting vendors or even the new picnic hamper), settle down on the lush lawns at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, the V&A Waterfront, Bloemendal and various venues in Cape Town and the Cape Winelands and see firm favourites, cult classics and many others.

COST: Tickets are available via Webtickets.co.za and costs vary according to the package selected; concessions do apply. Click through to the event for more information on the line-up and costs.

KIRSTENBOSCH SUMMER SUNSET CONCERTS (UNTIL APR 2018)
The beautiful Kirstenbosch Gardens livens up with the sound of music every Sunday until April 2018 for the annual summer sunset concerts. Each year, hordes of music lovers pack picnic baskets and blankets for the chilled-out, live music sessions on the historic botanical garden’s sprawling greens. Performances to look forward to in March include Jeremy Loops, Good Luck & The Kiffness, and Dan Patlansky & Albert Frost.

COST: Tickets are available via Webtickets.co.za and costs vary according to the performer; concessions do apply. Click through to the event for more information.
