Lift Airline: it's reasonable + has good perks
Here's what you want to know: kids fly half-price in December, there are no cancellation fees + you can do a wine-tasting onboard
Gidon Novick (kulula.com founder and former Comair CEO) and Jonathan Ayache (ex-Uber executive) have taken the bold step of opening a brand new airline. Lift Airline is South Africa's newest domestic air shuttle and it's completely “consumer-obsessed”, according to its press.
It'll serve Vida e Caffè coffee in the morning, wine tasting in the afternoon, and tickets are half-price for kids, plus there's convenient flying flexibility (there's no change fee). Lift is scheduled for its first departure from Johannesburg to Cape Town and George on Thursday, 10 December 2020.
KIDS CAN FLY FOR HALF-PRICE IN DECEMBER
From 1-16 December children between 2 and 12 years old get a 50% discount, a great holiday special for parents. The discount is calculated automatically when you check out and will be 50% off the base fare for selected flights when you book online via lift.co.za.
BONUS: NO CANCELLATION OR DATE-CHANGE FEES
Lift Airline has made flexible flying easy - you can change your flight as many times as you need. As long as you've made your changes 24 hours in advance, the airline won't charge you additional fees or penalties. You can also change traveller names and other details at no charge.
Plus, if you've arrived at the airport sooner than you would have liked, you can change your ticket to an earlier flight in the same category at no extra cost. If you’d like to cancel your ticket, simply add it into your Lift Wallet as credit to use another time.

A NICE TOUCH: TASTE WINES WHILE YOU FLY
Mornings on Lift Airline mean Vida e Caffé's coffee. In the afternoon the offering is wine tasting of a selection of some of South Africa's top wineries.

THERE’S MORE TO THE NAME THAN YOU THINK
Although co-founders Gidon Novick and Jonathan Ayache have put their all into their newest airline brainchild, they can't take full credit for the name. Instead, they let the public choose it by running a naming competition, which began in September 2020.
There was a lot of competition (over 25 000 entries), but they whittled it down to 'Lift' after eight people submitted the name. The eight winners will share the prize of a year's worth of free flights, and they'll get their names inscribed on the first Lift plane to take to the air.
FLY IN THE FIRST DOMESTIC AIRBUS
Lift's fleet house’s three Airbus A320 Aircrafts, all of which are housed in Cape Town. These are “the most technologically advanced aircraft in the skies”, according to the company's press.
