The rad Red Raddison and the renovated Ritz are both cool city spots to take the whole family for great food and dips in their pools. Or take them to Ratanga for one last wild ride, or go swim in one of the many natural rock pools dotted around the Cape.
Local favourite Strolla Restaurant and Bar is open
The Sea Point eatery is open as usual and, at 140 seats, it can cater to a crowd. There’s a kids play area so everyone gets a chance to have a break on New Year’s Day. The menu is also varied, offering everything from pizzas to share, to soups, salads, curries and rotisserie chicken. Strolla also boasts a rooftop deck, which stunning views of the ocean which makes it an awesome spot for sundowners.

Enjoy Asian cuisine (and breakfast) at Manga

It’s the summer hot spot to start your New Year, and it’s open to kids. This Miami-esque resort-style restaurant has a pool so you can cool off too! One last ride at Ratanga

Go tobogganing at Coolrunnings
Do something exhilarating at the downhill tobogganing track in Bellville. Tobogganing is similar to bobsleighing, which is a winter Olympic sport. How it works is the toboggans run up and down steel tracks to provide a thrilling ride you won’t soon forget. It starts at the foot of the hill from where you and your toboggan are hauled up to the top by reinforced steel cables. This five-minute calm before the storm is a great time to reflect on your impending hurtle down the slopes! This is definitely one the kids will love.

It’s market day at the Mojo Market
Forget the “new year, new me” and try instead the “new year, new market”. If you haven’t been to the Mojo Market in Sea Point then start your year off by heading there. What you can expect is 80 stalls, which include 45 designer retail stalls, 20 food vendors, two bars, a daily fresh food market, a live entertainment stage and a wellness zone. So that’s a whole day of activities sorted right there!
