WATCH: CYRIL RAMAPHOSA’S LATEST ADDRESS

South Africa moved to alert level 2 on Sunday evening, 12 September, and is in effect from 13 September which means estrictions have been eased on alcohol sales, gatherings and curfew hours. In his address to the nation on Sunday 12 September, President Cyril Ramaphosa also said that  “government has secured sufficient vaccines to vaccinate the entire adult population, and the supply of vaccines is no longer a constraint.”. A million doses are dispensed every 4 to 5 days, and a total tally of 14,6 million vaccines have been administered thus far, President Cyril Ramaphosa said in his recent address.

GOOD NEWS ON VACCINATIONS

Since being vaccinated, fewer people are getting very ill and ending up in ICU or on ventilation.  "South Africa is quickly becoming a vaccination site", said Ramaphosa, as over a quarter of all South African adults have received at least one vaccine dose and over 7 million people are fully vaccinated. He added that in the Eastern Cape, Limpopo and the Western Cape, more than 1 in 5 adults is fully vaccinated.

LOCKDOWN ADJUSTED LEVEL 2: RESTRICTIONS

Alert Level 2 restrictions are effective from Monday 13 September 2021.

  • Curfew hours are from 11pm - 4am. All non-essential establishments should close by 10pm.

  • Interprovincial travel for leisure is allowed.

  • The sale of alcohol for on-site consumption is allowed up to 10pm.

  • The sale of alcohol for off-site consumption is allowed between Monday - Friday, 10am - 6pm.

  • Non-essential establishments are allowed to open. This includes restaurants, taverns, bars and gyms.
  • However, these establishments must close by 10pm to allow their employees time to get home.

  • Gatherings are allowed to a maximum of 250 indoors and 500 outdoors. This includes religious services, political events and social gatherings. If the venue is too small to accommodate these numbers, venues cannot use more than 50% of the capacity.

  • Night vigils or other gatherings happening before or after funerals are not permitted.
