Cape Town punk and metal bands come together for the United Underground gig at Aandklas in Stellenbosch on Saturday 26 May.
Punk’s dead and metal is irrelevant. That’s the general sense in today’s mainstream music landscape, where pop rock and melodic indie reign supreme. But that’s not really an issue for these genres, which seem to perpetually embrace a middle-finger-up attitude no matter what’s featuring in the Top40.
So, in short, United Underground is actually a punk and metal-lovers’ wet dream. After all, it’s all about keeping it real and below the surface, further down than even the standard counterculture crazies are willing to go.
