If you adore knick-knacks, bric-a-brac, handmade crafts and unique garments, you’ll fall head over heels at Die Kattebak Market’s Vintage and Craft affair on Saturday, 15 July 2017. Head to the Palms Decor and Lifestyle Centre in the groovy and largely re-established suburb of Woodstock, and spend a few hours scouring the racks and tables and tasting the food on offer.
Find merchandise that is new, old, repurposed, recycled, upcycled, pre-loved and reloved at this feast for the sights. Whether you’re after fine silver jewelry, cute plants for your bedroom (one of Kattebak’s markets saw adorable ‘waterwise mini gardens’ on display), satchels, scarves, soaps or spoons- it’s most likely going to be there. You’re sure to find some great bargains too and who knows, you might even have a chance to do some bartering!
Shopping (and window shopping) at markets is already enjoyable for those who like discovering new treasures, but there will, nevertheless, be live music to add to the pleasure as you hunt around. When you’ve shopped ‘til you’ve (almost) dropped, there’s estate wines and craft beer to resuscitate you. There are also gourmet nibbles to help you get your energy back up.
Winter has settled in our Mother City and the days have gotten drastically colder. You’ll be happy to know, that this is going to be an indoor market, held in the Centre’s beautiful atrium, where sunlight filters through to warm you. Die Kattebak Market hosts their vibey markets on the first and last Saturday of each month, so this isn’t the first or last you’ll be seeing of them.
BUYING AND TRADING AT THE DIE KATTEBAK MARKET IN WOODSTOCK
If you’re coming to shop, then the good news is that admission to the market is absolutely free! You may want to bring along some cash if you plan on taking home some cool finds and noshing on delicious food and drink, though!
If you’re adept at making cool crafts you want to sell or have a collection of rad vintage bits and bobs that you can no longer keep, you can always become a trader for the day and make a few bucks at the market. Just send an email to kattebakmarket@gmail.com, or dial them up on +27 (0)21 462 0394, and ask them all about it.
If you can’t get enough of that good market vibe, the fun doesn’t have to stop here. Cape Town has loads more on offer that run regularly; here’s Cape Town Mag’s top ten markets in the city. If you find you’re often short of time for shopping during the day, when many markets are held, find out more on the night markets in the Mother City.
