This is Not a Vibe returns with Sundaze

Who says you have to stay in on a Sunday night?

But why is it not a vibe? This is what so many people have asked 49 Others, the organisers of alternative party series This is Not a Vibe. The answer, according to a 49 Others frontman, is more often than not a mysterious, “Because it just isn’t”- that’s the point. You go to their events as you are and you make of them what you wish. That is not to say that This is Not a Vibe (we’ll refer to it as TINAV from now on) is devoid of fun and coolness. But the name generates interest and curiosity, and the only way you get to find out is by attending. Sundaze marks the return of the series, which has been laying low as of late.

So come out (the day before the workweek starts) on Sunday, 9 July 2017 for a casual bash at the Great Wizoo. All afternoon and all evening you can chill with your chommies and jam to tunes delivered from a good-old laptop- because this is a party with no pretentions.

What’s more, you can stay sustained by sipping on drinks and chowing down on pizza- the Wizoo does some fantastic ones, and they go so well with beer. The Wizoo offers pints and draughts for only R25! However, if you’re not a beer fan, you can find a beverage of your choice at their bar, including glasses of red for R20 and R25, tequila shots for R15, and cocktails for R40 that are, and I quote, “not watered down”. They’re strong, Baba!

The Great Wizoo is something of a hidden gem in Rondebosch and definitely one of the best choices for a night out. Located in the Rondebosch Sports Club, it’s regularly holds blues and jazz evenings and also avails itself as a venue for events like wedding receptions and 21sts. There are two bars, pool tables and big TVs for watching the game. You’ll also find all sorts of benches and sofas to kick-back on and a little nook with board games. Being close to the University of Cape Town, the Wizoo draws in a lot of students who are looking for a good time and drinks for prices that are low-budget friendly.

ENTRY TO THE 2017 SUNDAZE AT THE GREAT WIZOO

If you make it there before 4pm, you can party for free. From 4pm onwards, entrance is a mere R40. That’s nearly two quarts though, so if you want to save your drinking money then come through earlier.

There is no dress code: come as you are, which is however you want to be. Unless you’re not wearing clothes. Then wear clothes.
