The Gallery at Glen Carlou has put together a charming collection of South African art under the banner “Summer Salon”. It features 11 artists including André Serfontein, Floris van Zyl, Ingrid Winterbach and Helena Hugo.
Of course, there’s always the exceptional wines to try, and the fine-dining restaurant, and what better than to pair fine-dining with some refined gallery viewing (and buying art). There’s enough there to make it a full day out.
Gallery manager and curator Christa Swart put together Summer Salon for the season, and it will show until 24 January, 2021. Other artists that make up the show are Karlien de Villiers, Le Mouton Riche, Marguerite Roux, Noelene Kleve, Ronél de Jager, Stephen Rosin and Strijdom van der Merwe.
There is also a second exhibition, Carin Dorrington and JP Meyer (until January 3, 2021), as well as a Contemporary Art Practice (CAP) workshop. There’s always plenty to catch the interest on the gallery’s floor, from painting and photography, to sculpture and embroidery. The floor is filled with contemporary, pop and modern art from South African artists, with new exhibitions coming in and out every six to nine weeks.
Pair your art affair with a wine tasting; it costs R50pp to taste five wines. You can go a step further (and fancier) with a wine pairing for R100pp. Glen Carlou has a great selection of whites and reds, from a flagship Chardonnay to a Pinotage in The Collection.
The Restaurant @ Glen Carlou offers a seasonal menu, which ranges in price from R45 to R198 per dish. A lovely idea it has introduced is that you use their recipes to take their flair into your own home. Dishes you could make include prawn tortellini with pine nuts, cauliflower souffle with goat cheese, hot cross bun pudding or the boeber with guava mousse. Have a look at The Restaurant @ Glen Carlou’s recipes.
Glen Carlou is set in Simonsberg-Paarl area and is about a 40-minute drive out of Cape Town city centre. Entrance to the gallery is free, and it is open seven days a week from 10am-5pm.
