It’s a well-known story but worth hearing (and seeing) time and again to remind us of the resilience of the human spirit. The story in question is the Diary of Anne Frank, which follows the courageous journey of 13-year-old Anne and her Jewish family’s attempts to evade Nazi capture during World War II.
The story is brought to life in a theatre production by the Hottentots Holland Dramatic Society and can be seen at the Playhouse Theatre in Somerset-West from Thursday, 15 to Saturday, 24 February 2018.
This sincere and heartfelt play offers the audience insight into the atrocities of the Holocaust, in which some six million Jews were murdered. In the end Anne’s compelling words “think of all the beauty still left around you and be happy” must inspire us to fight against intolerance and the hate that is still prevalent in society today.
Based on Wendy Kesselman’s adaptation, The Diary of Anne Frank at the Playhouse is directed by Darryl Spijkers whose aim with this production is also to focus of relevant aspects of Jewish culture overlooked in other versions of the compelling story.
