Thai Cooking with Jason Whitehead at Ginger & Lime

Let food and fun be your medicine, and get a generous dose at this evening of cooking with a passionate Cape Town chef

Come down to Ginger & Lime, on Thursday, 29 June 2017, for a Thai food cooking session in their kitchen with chef Jason Whitehead; a force to be reckoned with on the local cuisine scene. Designed to feel similar to going to a friend’s place and whipping up a tasty meal with them; this evening will have a relaxed, homely atmosphere with everyone involved in preparing recipes together (as opposed to cooking individually at separate workstations).

Ginger & Lime is, quite simply, a kitchen which hosts evenings of interactive culinary classes like this every week, each time with a different theme. This one sounds particularly suited to the wintery weather Cape Town is starting to experience. Thai food is known for being a little bit spicy, and it’s definitely delicious, so it’s sure to warm you up from the inside and leave your belly happy. What’s more, you’ll be making dishes with the help of Jason giving you a few demonstrations. He’s sure to inspire you with his chef wisdom and help you add a little magic of your own to what you cook. Few things taste as good as a meal that you know you have lovingly prepared yourself. The way you approach cooking and how you feel about it may just be changed (for the positive) by the evening’s end!

An illustrious heavyweight in the culinary field with many years of experience and some published work, Jason is more than well-practised, but he never lets his cooking get tired. Super creative, he’s all about switching things up and having fun experimenting with food, and has collaborated with various restaurants in Cape Town wishing to revitalise themselves. He’s also charismatic and often gives interactive cooking demonstrations, like the one he will be doing this month, that are lively and entertaining. Chef Jason also regularly makes appearances on television and radio.

This evening will accommodate about 20 guests and six dishes will be made with the use of recipes given by the studio. Everything you produce and eat will be prepared from scratch, so get stuck in and, in the spirit of Ginger & Lime, ‘free-style’ it. You can also, as Jason Whitehead does, just play. (Don’t worry, you’ll be under friendly supervision should things start going haywire!). You won’t have to spend the whole time slaving over the stove either - this evening is also about enjoying yourself and the company of those around you, so feel free to relax with a glass of wine and chat away - get involved as far as you would like to.

As with a friend’s house, everyone can basically do their own part - while someone gets drinks going and another stirs the sauce, someone else can chop veggies and so on. You’re even welcome to come dressed as you would when going to your mate’s place for supper - that is relaxed smart-casual. It will be up to you to bring your own preferred beverages along (no corkage will be charged). The rest - all food and ingredients, recipes, basic wines, and of course, all kitchen equipment and cooking necessities - will be provided by Ginger & Lime.
