Stay in and join a host of events celebrating Youth Day

A virtual concert with local stars + visit Iziko (it’s free)

Last Update 9 June 2021

On 16 June it’s Youth Day in South Africa. Here are three worthy options for this day of remembrance: some Iziko Museums allow free entry and there are a host of fascinating exhibitions to see, or let the kids dance their day away to hip-hop legends.

FREE ENTRY TO THE IZIKO MUSEUM

For one day, 16 June, select Iziko Museums will open to the public for free. There are a number of fascinating exhibitions, such as Early Sapiens Behaviour at the  South African Museums superimpose yourself in an augmented reality in ancient Egypt at the Slave Lodge. Don’t miss the vicious oceans and picturesque landscape paintings at the South African National Gallery, and at the V&A Waterfront and Bo Kaap, the Iziko Maritime Centre and the Bo Kaap Museum will also allow free access on Youth Day.

When: Wednesday, 16 June, 10am - 2pm
Price: entrance is free for all visitors

LEARN TO DANCE (BETTER) ON YOUTH DAY

Learn how to dance from the very best in the local dance industry: M&M Music and Performing Arts Academy award-winning hip-hop teachers will lead a hip-hop dance class, a graffiti dance sketch, as well as a breaking and locking class for kids. Plus, participants will get to watch a short demonstration by the World Championship B-Boy Crew on the day with a trivia competition and a hip hop history workshop. Any child from 7 - 18 can join, from novice to hip-hop pro.

When: Wednesday, 16 June from 10am - 3:30pm
Price: tickets are R400pp and are available to purchase from webtickets.co.za

You’ll also catch Bianca Goosen, who has performed in numerous music festivals. She will be followed by young rising stars, Wellington singers RJay & LKay.
