Visitors mostly come for great whites, but you’ll also see a variety of other shark species, like bronze whaler and 7-gill cow sharks. WSDC currently has incredible group, seasonal and local specials on offer (you can always find these on its website home page).
Mention CapeTownMagazine and you’ll get R400 off a standard shark-cage diving and viewing trip (it’s usually R2 200), plus there are very competitive rates (up to 50% off) for private charters, which include a free hookah air supply.

SWIM WITH A SHIVER OF COPPER SHARKS
Gansbaai is known as the great white capital of the world, and there are also many other shark species there. Swim with schooling bronze whalers (also known as copper sharks) – they grow up to 3.5 metres long and it’s not unusual to have up to 30 around the cage.
And while you’re out looking for sharks, you’ll also come across a lot of other aquatic life, like whales and dolphins (sometimes in big pods). It’s worth noting that you’re most likely to see great whites in winter.

SUPPORT CONSERVATION WITH YOUR ADVENTURE
Diving with sharks in their natural habitats is one of the most thrilling experiences you can imagine. You’ll dive from a 12-metre custom-designed, sea-cabin-cruiser catamaran, built to industry specs for safety and also recently refurbished.
White Shark Diving Company has held the TripAdvisor Hall of Fame certificate of Excellence for 6 years running and has been operating for 24 years – that’s a lot of experience and satisfied customers.

The company is also deeply committed to conservation. It’s a founding member of the Great White Protection Foundation and contributes data to the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment that contributes to shark conservation in South Africa. The studies it contributes to are crucial to understanding the role these remarkable predators play in the marine ecosystem.
