Running enthusiasts will know that there are few things that beat a run at sunset – especially when it is around a gorgeous setting like Spier Wine Farm in Stellenbosch.
Lucky for all the runners out there, the Spier Twilight Trail Run returns on Friday, 19 January, in what promises to be a delightful evening, featuring running (of course!), food, beer, wine and great vibes. Don’t forget to bring your running shoes and an awesome attitude too!
HIGH FIVE OR TEST IT AT TEN
Runners can choose between a 5km or a 10km course. The former can be done as a walk, while the 10km demands a bit more running, and thus fitness. The 10km starts at 6pm, with the start of the 5km following closely on its heels at 6:05pm. Sunset on race day is at approximately 7:45pm so there’s plenty of time to complete the race before dark.
ENTRY TO THE SPIER TWILIGHT TRAIL RUN
Entries are available online at entryninja.com for R60/p for the 5km and R100/p for the 10km – these prices are only valid online. Online entries close on Wednesday, 17 January at 12pm. Entries on the day are available for R80/p for the 5km and R120/p for the 10km – entry and registration closes at 5:45pm on the day, no late entries or registration will be accepted. Please note that there will be a race briefing for both races at 5:50pm and that both races are timed.
WHAT TO REMEMBER
While there will be a self-help water station on the course, runners are encouraged to carry their own water. It is also advised to bring your cellphone (for pictures!... and as a safety precaution) and a jacket for use in the unlikely event of changes in weather conditions. There will also be a prize giving at the end, with spot prizes to be won.
GOOD TO KNOW
Spier’s Hoghouse restaurant will be open so why do stay to grab a tasty bite to eat.
