South African metalheads get to kick off the new year with a head-banging start when American rockers Lamb of God finally perform live in Mzansi at the the Cape Town City Hall on Friday, 24 January 2014 as part of a two-concert South African tour.
Fans have been chomping at the bit to unleash to their favourite thrash metal group since the act cancelled local performances back in 2012 – the result of lead singer Randy Blythe being detained in the Czech Republic – and now audiences in both Cape Town and Johannesburg will finally get to see the metalcore artists shred their guitars in the flesh.
The Grammy-nominated five-piece outfit, who are said to be one of the key leaders of the new wave of American heavy metal movement, are universally appreciated for their indefinable blend of thrash, speed and groove metal mixed with elements of hardcore punk and drummer Chris Adler’s impossibly fast, rhythmic machine-gun drumming.
Fans can expect to mosh hard through the band’s extensive discography, which spans seven successful studio albums and features an impressive collection of songs, like ‘Now You’ve Got Something to Die For’, ‘Redneck’ and ‘Ghost Walking’, the last of which is the lead single off their most recent record, “Resolution” , which debuted at number one on the Billboard Rock Chart.
The US legends will be supported on stage by Cape Town thrashers Mind Assault, a melodic death metal band that brings the noise in both English and Afrikaans, and Jo’burg group The Drift, whose members are all alumni of successful South African hardcore bands. In short, expect to rock out really, super hard.
