iTownship Wine Festival

Join us in uncorking the very first Township Wine Festival and certainly not the last

Finally, Cape Town will be launching its first Township Wine Festival – a unique event amongst the world's great wine capitals.

Khayelitsha will host thousands of people at its Oliver Tambo Centre, just off the N2, to enjoy wine, food and network! Over 90 local wineries are expected to participate together with manufacturers of related lifestyle products and services. A pavilion featuring black wine producers will take centre stage.

The iTownship Wine Festival
will also feature a Chefs’ Pavilion which will host township chefs and sommeliers from Cape Town’s finest hotels and restaurants.

Over 3,000 people are expected to attend the iTownship Wine Festival including township taverners, restauranteurs, diplomats, representatives of the Great Wine Capital’s of the World Global Network, corporate and their clients.

Interested in learning about opportunities in the wine industry? There will be a booth hosted by the Department of Agriculture providing information on both career and SME opportunities in the wine industry value chain.

Of interest to all will be the very colorful Arts, Crafts and Jeweler Pavilion which will highlight the immense talent of township artists.

Looking for a one of a kind township party?

You’ll find it here! Including the well known Mzoil’s.

Though Khayelitsha gives a pretty grim impression from the outside with many shacks lining its outskirts; this township has a vibrant culture within.

It is also widely known for the award winning Xhosa film U-Carmen eKhayelitsha, the acclaimed version of Bizet's opera Carmen set in Khayelitsha.

Read a little more on Khayelitsha.

The iTownship Wine Festival will be supported by the iTownship Wine Tasting Trail – an initiative where selected township taverners and eateries will be matched with wineries and be exposed to the wine making process.

In the week preceding the festival, the wineries will hold wine tastings at the various taverns and eateries – at the same time promoting the festival to their clients.

Why not spend an evening in one of Khayelitsha’s best Bed & Breakfast after an evening of wine tasting – try Malebo’s, Kopanong or of course Vicky’s Bed & Breakfast.

It’s an experience not to be missed.
