Hit Like A Girl: Cape Town Sixes Adds Women’s League To Main Event

Instead of playing with the men, the women get their own teams this year

The Cape Town Sixes Cricket Festival 2019 is coming around once again on 22–24 February 2018. This year, the popular amateur cricket and football festival is introducing a women’s league to the main tournament teams.

Now in its fourth year, the festival will be adding a “Women’s Social” team to the cricket leagues (R10 000 per team) and football divisions (R500 per team). There are only six team spots available in the cricket league and a select few in the football division. Both cricket and football teams receive six full weekend general access passes for friends and family and football teams stand a chance to win prizes up to the value of R3000.

They’ve also added a full junior tournament for under-11s and under-13s. There are six teams per age group and each player receives two full weekend general access passes for parents, friends or family, as well as a soft drink, a meal and an official Cape Town Sixes cap.

There’ll also be a kids zone with rides, food and drinks, ice-creams and live music, so parents can enjoy the festival while kids are taken care of and entertained all day. Children under-18 enter the festival for free. All kids activities are charged at a nominal fee of R20 a day.

Below are the other leagues to join at the festival. Players decide which league to join based on their skills and experience. Note that only men can participate in these leagues.

The popular VIP corporate experience is already sold out, but watch out for next year’s event, so you can grab hold of this corporate package for exciting team building and client functions.

Castle Lager League
This league is for those who want to dust off their gear and swing the bat once again – so past experience and passion for the game is a must. This field is close to the party and the bar, so rally your teammates for a great game and a cold one right after.
Price: R10 000 per team

Castle Lite League
Social players who enjoy the banter more than the game will be happy in this league. It’s the most social and caters for all skill sets. And, there’ll be prizes for the best dressed.
Price: R10 000 per team

Social Coca-cola League
This league is for social swingers and men who want to get off the couch and back out there, and show the younger ones how it’s done (all while getting a good chirp in).
Price: R10 000 per team

The main initiative of the Cape Town Sixes is to give back to poor communities. The #HitPovertyForASix organisation will run coaching clinics leading up to the festival. These clinics will host children from townships across the Western Cape. The children will receive valuable tips from a former South African cricket player.

South African sensation The Kiffness and local band The Rivertones will entertain festival-goers throughout the weekend. You can buy food and drink from vendors such as Hudson’s, Durban's Finest Curry and Black Beer’d Fish and Chips, as well as coffee and beverages from Seattle Coffee Co. There’ll also be a well-stocked bar serving cold beer, ciders, gin, wine and other refreshments.

Day passes for Saturday and Sunday cost R60pp. Weekend passes cost R100pp. Tickets are available on Webtickets
