Here’s how Cape Town is celebrating Women’s Day

Drink wine in the moonlight, join a hackathon, laugh out loud + 2 more events

Last updated: 2 August 2022

This month we celebrate national women's day, and there are loads of ways to spend Tuesday, 9 August here in Cape Town. Join a hackathon or a sunset hike with wine, spend the night laughing or learn some boss skills.

GO ON A SUNSET HIKE

For the adventurous (or anyone who enjoys wine with a view), join a  full-moon hike, starting at sunset, at Muratie Wine Farm. Pack a picnic basket – you can buy wine by the glass or bottle from the farm; coffee is also available until 8pm. While you’re there, enter a lucky draw to win a Falke sock hamper. The route is 3.5km total and it can take up to 45 minutes to reach the picnic spot.

Date: Tuesday, 9 August 2022; from 4pm
Cost: R100 per adult, R50 for children under 10yrs (include permit for marked route to be done after hours)

JOIN A HACKATHON

Calling all female IT students and graduates: J to join a hackathon, hosted by Girl Code, to raise awareness of female talent in the industry. There’s a R60 000 cash prize. Participants will collaborate to create a website, game or mobile app that addresses a selected real-world challenge. You’ll meet people who are as passionate as you are about technology and programming, so it’s a great networking opportunity, too. Food and drinks will be provided.

Date: Saturday - Sunday, 6-7 August; 7am - 3pm
Cost: From R50, book here

BE EMPOWERED AT THIS  WORKSHOP

Get clear on what you want to achieve, personally and professionally, at this self-development workshop hosted by life coach Lana Stacey. She'll guide you through a reflexive exercise (please check, does her text actually say reflective? If it does, leave it as is) that can help you make further decisions – plus you'll get complimentary drinks.

Date: Saturday, 6 August; 10am - 1pm
Cost: From R100, book here
