On Saturday, 16 September 2017, the dance school Paradiso Academy on De Villiers Street is hosting a flashmob workshop that will put the moves back into your weekend. Get ready for a seriously fun workout with various dance styles from around the world.
Flashmobs have been intriguing audiences (and participants!) around the world since 2003. A flash mob is where a group of people gather in a public space or private venue, and then break into a choreographed routine for the delight of audiences.
Any flashmob takes a lot of planning and dance training to execute. The big event that this workshop is preparing for is on Sunday, 4 March 2018 from 11am to 1pm. We do not have any more details on the main event just yet, but we do know that with all the workshops Paradiso Academy are running it’s going to be an amazing sight to see!
The styles of dance that you’ll be taught include kizomba and salsa. You’ll also come into contact with bachata and afrobeat, which will certainly get your heart rate going. For those that do not know, kizomba is a popular dance style which originated in Angola. The word ‘kizomba’ means ‘party’ in Kimbundu, and it is categorised by its similarity to Semba – in the late 1970s Semba dancers in Angola heard the new genre of kizomba music and started adapting their dance style to the new and exciting beats. Bachata is a social style of dancing that originated in the Dominican Republic and has since spread all over the world!
There are some rules for this event (but don’t worry, it won’t stifle the fun!). Firstly, all participants need to have dance shoes to participate in the workshop – it’s very important! Secondly, the organisers have asked that no videos of the training be put on social media as they want the end result to be a big surprise for everyone!
TICKETS TO THE 2017 FLASHMOB WORKSHOP AT THE PARADISO ACADEMY

We know the struggle of keeping fit, and we’ve made a list of interesting and unusual ways to keep up that fitness level! Also, we’ve got a list of all the nightclubs in the city so you can show off those moves.
