Your guide to what to do and where to go this Freedom Day in Cape Town
Cherry Picking Season in Ceres
Skip through the orchards with your loved ones and fill your baskets with bright red cherries this summer.
’Tis the season to pick berries,
Especially bright red cherries,
Climb a ladder high into the trees,
And wave hello to the birds & bees.
Fill baskets with fruits, ripe and red,
Or pause to look at the view instead,
Bring your loved ones for a day of fun,
Shaded by trees from the African sun.
It’s cherry season at the locally loved Klondyke Farm in Ceres again. From Saturday, 26 November 2016 to the first week of January 2017 guests are invited to pick perfectly ripe cherries from the farm’s leafy orchards. Skip through trees laden with fruit and bring containers to take home your loot.
Various delicious cherry varietals are available – think cherry pie, cherry cocktails and cherry ice lollies to mention just a few. Pickers are welcome to bring picnics to enjoy under the shade of the pine trees on the edge of the orchard. There are also braai facilities, should you wish to whip up some boerewors in true South African style.
The cherry trees are open to the public from 8:30am to 4:30pm every day, except on Sunday, 25 December 2016. The perfect way to celebrate summer; cherry picking is a wonderful annual tradition to start with your family and loved ones.
