A Market With Healthy Food Kids Won’t Frown About

Learn where good food comes from, how to read labels, what to avoid and get healthy food while you do it

Talitha Kotze, mompreneur and mother of two under-threes started 'Healthy Kids are Cool' to share information about nurturing children’s health, development and wellbeing with parents and caregivers. Kotze says, “Once you really understand how bad processed food is for your kids, you can't un-know it, and then you want to know what the good stuff is, and where to find it.”

The Healthy Kids are Cool Market in Noordhoek on Saturday 7 September is jam-packed with information and inspiration to support children to grow strong minds and fit bodies. “Feeding your children well will allow them to thrive in all areas of life. It’s the parents or caregiver’s responsibility to find out how to do this and this market will provide a step in the right direction.”

WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE MARKET
Stalls will be selling healthy eats and treats containing natural and organic ingredients with no preservatives, colourants or refined sugar. You can also find eco-friendly items, natural body products, essential oils and DIY food inspiration. Plus, pick up tips and gadgets to make parents’ lives easier and fun for kids.

One of these gadgets is a highly sought-after lunch box with individual compartments and a special seal that keeps each section separate, plus has fun interchangeable covers. No spillage, no soggy sandwiches, no waste. “The trick is that you need to love packing this box and your kids need to love carrying it, opening it, and caring for it. The different compartments help me to remember to pack all the nutrients that my daughter's body requires to thrive at school,” says Kotze.

THE VENUE
The market is held under a large tent on the lawn in the middle of the Noordhoek Farm Village surrounded by family-friendly restaurants, shops, a secure play area with jungle gyms. There is seating under the tent to sit and enjoy the food and drink on offer.

ENTERTAINMENT
The Noordhoek Farm Village has a secure area for kids to play on jungle gyms. You can meet a six-year-old entrepreneur who will be offering face painting for the little ones and a company called Agaaain! will be providing fun entertainment for kids. More will be confirmed closer to the time.

STOCK THE PANTRY AND FRIDGE
You’ll be able to pick up gluten-free and sugar-free cakes, plant-based popsicles, organic chocolate spread, flavoured kombucha, fresh organic berries, protein-rich pancakes, falafel, fermented foods, raw chocolate, vegan droëwors, superfoods, organic chicken direct from the farmer, locally grown organic vegetables, protein snacks made from chickpeas and more. Have you ever tried toaster bread made only from seeds, salt and water, with no added yeast, no egg, no binding or raising agents, gluten-, dairy-, sugar- and GMO-free, low-GI and vegan?
