Get your dose of design and all things artistic at the Design Indaba FilmFest on the rooftop of the The Bank, a creative space in Gardens, from Sunday, 17 February to, Sunday, 3 March 2013.
As a precursor to the Design Indaba Expo and Conference, and with the majestic Table Mountain as a backdrop and prime views of the sunset on the bill, the two-week long outdoor movie festival will provide perfect summertime entertainment for cheap.
Grab your popcorn and settle down for a plethora of pictures that focus on design, art, creativity and innovation. This art-in-movement fair aims to leave visitors inspired, and allows movie-goers to network and discuss ideas, thoughts and inspirations with like-minded individuals.
Highlights for the 2013 Design Indaba Film Festival
Highlights include the must-see documentary, “Big Easy Express”, which follows the remarkable journey of folk- and indie-rock bands Mumford & Sons, Old Crow Medicine Show and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros as they take to the railways across the USA on a musical adventure as part of their “tour of dreams”.
You’ll also want to tag along as fearless female and artist Marina Abramović pushes herself beyond boundaries and limits in, what is arguably, an outrageous quest to transform herself into a live form of art. The self-titled film “Marina Abramović: The Artist is Present” challenges audiences’ perspectives and entrenches them in the creative process.
Otherwise, delve into the life and eccentricity of lauded fashion journalist and former Vogue editor-in-chief Diana Vreeland in the film “Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has to Travel”. This iconic woman dictated trends and style, transformed the way the masses perceived beauty and set the bar for generations to come.
Also not to be missed, Morgan Spurlock’s 2011 film “Comic-Con: Episode IV – A Fan’s Hope” documents the trek of five comic book devotees who descend on one of the biggest pop-culture events of the year.
