These Winter Specials Will Make The Season Work Hard For You

These 7 winter specials are light on the budget but big on flavour

Last Updated: 13 July 2020

Sit-down dining is back and restaurants are ready to welcome back their sorely missed customers with a host of winter specials. From Le Pommier’s burgers and wine and Bertha’s Restaurant’s full menu discount to Foxcroft’s fine dining from home deal, Capetonians have many reasons to look forward to the cold weather.

When you drop off your unused clothing at Jordan Wine Estate’s annual clothing collection drive, make a day of it and stop by the restaurant for their special winter sharing meal. For R150 per person, you can enjoy a delicious slow-cooked lamb Rogan Josh with pickled aubergine, toasted coconut, raita and traditional naan bread. End it all off with a sweet surprise of the chef’s freshly made patisserie of the day.

If you’re looking for the kind of meal where you can have little bites of everything you’ll want to check out Protégé’s Winter Special Menu. Between 2 July and 30 September, Protégé restaurant in Franschhoek has curated an exclusive selection of twelve small plates. Have your pick from spiced oysters and steamed mussels to Korean fried chicken and Asian pork rotis. Protégé recommends you order four to five dishes per person and share, so you can sample as much as possible. Plates range from R65 to R165.

No trip to Simon’s Town is really complete without a lunch stop at Bertha’s. To welcome back their customers and give back during these tough times, Bertha’s is offering a 25% discount on their entire menu. Bring the family and share Bertha’s combo of hake, prawns, mussels and calamari strips. For something lighter, try out their freshly shucked oysters.

Foxcroft in Constantia is offering not one but two winter specials: For R295 you can choose whether you’d like to enjoy a sit-down meal there, or take it home. The Sit Down Winter Special offers your choice of either the steamed line fish or the lamb shoulder. Plus, it comes with four delectable small plates and Foxcroft’s homemade bread. If you’re not ready to venture out just yet, get out the good silverware and tuck into the Foxcroft at Home Winter Special. The four courses include green olive focaccia, yellowfin tuna, Oak Valley pork belly and a sweet freshly baked banana bread.
