Though most are convinced that summer is the best time to visit Cape Town, the colder season is a particularly great time to touch down on Mother City soil too, not least because of the many awesome accommodation specials on offer.
That is, during the chilly spell, a number of hotels and guest houses in Cape Town and the surrounding areas are generous enough to slash their prices and offer brilliant value-for-money deals for those looking for a little getaway. So, we’ve rounded up a few of these stayover specials for you to check out so you can go check in somewhere tip-top this season.
2017 CAPE TOWN ACCOMMODATION SPECIALS
The serene and homely Under Oaks wine estate on the Paarl wine route offers a farm feel and tastefully designed four-star accommodation suites in the form of premium deluxe, luxury, and standard rooms fittingly named after red and white wines such as Pinotage and Merlot. Most of the suites have a private patio that looks out over the farm dam or vineyards, and there is also a small saltwater pool where you can cool off on a hot summer’s day. Their focus is on couples in search of a romantic getaway with add-ons that include a selection of platters, served on your private patio. Situated in the little town of Prince Albert – a quaint Karoo establishment located approximately four hours away from Cape Town sits African Relish, a recreational cookery school and accommodation hotspot. The cooking school, which officially opened in 2009 was originally created to offer travellers the true Karoo culinary experience while visiting the charming settlement. Nowadays, the popular culinary school offers locals and tourists alike half, full-day or weekend courses, which specialise in (but is not limited to), traditional Karoo cuisine. Hosting small and large groups, the cookery school provides Anytime Cooking Courses, perfect for the passing explorer, as well as Scheduled Cooking Courses (which you’d need to book in advance). In addition to the cooking classes, African Relish also owns a couple of cottages in the small town. During the winter period, travellers are advised to ask for the #cookandstay special. The special is available from 9 July 2017 – 31 August 2017. For two nights sharing accommodation and a half-day Karoo on a Plate cooking class (three courses) will cost R1575 per person sharing, and R1845 for single rate. Accommodation is self-catering and requires direct booking.
Also ask about winter accommodation rates and specials taking place over the months of June, July and August. Prices for this accommodation hotspot are the Deurdrift 1 & 2 which will cost R450 per person sharing and R600 single rate. The Doringbos will cost R450 per person or R600 single rate. The Akkedis is a lovely four sleep unit which is R1400 per night. Please note that all the rooms are self catering.

Boschendal Wine Estate
Find your way to the historic Boschendal Wine Estate, nestled in the picturesque Drakensberg Valley (between Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl) in the Western Cape.
