10 Questions For: Dale Scogings

This young, talented blogger of Trinket Spotter fame keeps abreast of fashion trends and always has quirky and easy to follow DIY fashion tips

1.  How would you describe what you do for a living?
Simply; I create. I’m a content producer for Spree by day, a blogger by evening and a freelance graphic designer by midnight.

Dale Scogings Trinket Spotter fashion blogger cape town

2.  What is your most vivid childhood memory?
That would have to be standing in my very tall tree house in Somerset West and yelling down, “there are no heights up here!” to my cousin who was clearly afraid of them. Needless to say, my grandpa went on to buy me an Oxford Dictionary for Christmas.

3.  If you could invite any three people, dead or alive, for dinner, who would they be and why?
Zelda Fitzgerald, Marie Antoinette and Anna Wintour. Zelda,  for her insight into one of my favourite men [F. Scott] and my absolute favourite era (fashion, frivolity and exquisite design). Marie,  for her insight into fashion, expectations of women and hair secrets. Anna Wintour; she’s the pope of fashion, no further explanation needed.

4. If you ever found yourself auditioning for a music reality TV show, what song would you sing and why?
‘Hung Up’ by Madonna. What’s not to love about disco leotards and matching dance moves?

5.  How would you complete this sentence?
The South African cabinet should include a Minister of Rainbows; jokes, a Minister of Women’s Rights.

6.  What would you say is the biggest misconception about you?
That would have to be that I’m an extrovert.

7.  What is your (honest) opinion of Cape Town?
Yikes. I’ve only been here for a year so I’ve seen the city from absolutely fresh eyes. I love the balance between the natural environment and the urban scene; it inspires me constantly. And I hate to gush but this place just makes one want to be a better person. Do more, see more, learn more, create more. That said, Cape Town does have a terribly depressing side, months of train riding and two muggings had me learn that the hard way. But such is life, there’s still much goodness here.

8.  What's the greatest fear you've had to overcome to get where you are today?
The fear of failure. Nothing empowers a creative than the power of blind optimism. Having faith that your imaginations can be realised through design, photography and art is the only way to build confidence and create at liberty.

9.   What's the one thing you'd like to achieve before you die?
I’d love to publish my own book whilst dressing only in Elie Saab.

10.  Which well-known South African personality would you , without a doubt, be able to beat in a street fight and why?
Candice Swanepoel. Kicking someone off their Victoria Secret heels can’t be that tough.
Just kidding. I love her.
