Winemaker’s Dinner at Benguela on Main

Prepare your tastebuds for a sensory feast

Devotees of top-notch cuisine and those committed to the quest for fine wine will want to mark a space in their calendars for the Winemaker’s Dinner at Benguela on Main on Thursday, 1 June 2017. From 7pm at the restaurant which is part of the elegant Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate franchise, foodies will enjoy a heavenly French- and English-inspired menu courtesy of the estate’s executive chef Jean Delport and receive some great tips on wine from its head winemaker Johann Fourie. Furthermore, diners will be given some inside information on the estate’s excellent wines.

Benguela Estate sits on vineyards whose grapes are given their distinctive quality by the soils they grow from and the surrounding coastal conditions. Needless to say, this is part of what makes their vino something special. Enter Johann Fourie, who was formerly the cellarmaster of KWV and who shows interest in finding the balance between the scientific and the artistic within winemaking; it is a skill that certainly requires a good technical knowledge of it, but also a little something extra. In terms of finding that perfect balance, Johann certainly seems to have nailed it - his mastery of wine earned him the title of the 2015 Diner’s Winemaker of the Year.

Jean Delport, Executive Chef at Benguela on Main, focuses mainly on preparing food inspired by classic French and English dishes, which he interprets in his own unique way and aims to impart an air of South African influence on. His delicious creations fuse contemporary with classic and the ingredients he uses are seasonal and local, so very fresh. His menus change often so there’s nothing stale about Benguela’s food- it’s all about exploring new culinary possibilities and making things happen.

The Winemaker’s Dinner is something of a wine and food pairing event, as head chef Jean Delport is on a mission to continuously create and develop food that matches with the Estate’s wines - get it right and you’ve got the perfect marriage taking place on your taste buds. This is sure to delight gastronomists and also bring another element into the evening that goes beyond eating and drinking and into an appreciation of the artistry behind Jean and Johann’s work.

The Taster at Benguela on Main is another attraction for visitors to this venue in the Winelands. It is a state-of-the-art wine tasting room where you can swirl and sip some of Benguela’s delicious selection, and which is also perfect for hosting events and functions. If you’re feeling full and you’ve done the wine tasting, never fear, it doesn’t have to stop there! The Taster at Benguela on Main also has a wine shop where you can find your favourite blends to take home with you.

Beyond that, the Estate promises that the time that you spend at it will always be relaxing and comfortable, with staff who are careful to cater to your needs and a beautiful, sophisticated interior, so you’re sure to leave feeling satisfied in more ways than one!
