Cape Town Trance Party Schedule

Your guide to the sickest summer psy and electronic music festivals of the 2016-2017 season!

Last Updated: Friday, 12 May 2017.

Cape Town is home to the outdoor trance music party. Sure, Joburg tries its best, but this seaside city with its chilled-out reputation and its surrounding natural splendour, is the obvious choice for weekend-long, wild-eyed music festivals in undisclosed, enchanting locations.

However, if you’re not in the loop, upcoming outdoor trance parties can prove rather elusive. More times than not, it’s difficult to get the hard facts about what’s happening where and when.

More specifically, in much the same way as people from Cape Town direct you around the city with useful instructions like “drive away from the mountain”, the only ‘essential’ info that those who are clued up are often willing to share about a trance party is that the jol was the, “party of my life” or had “mystical visuals” and “amazing energy”.

Don’t despair though; we’re here to help! We’ve compiled an overview of the best Cape Town outdoor trance parties of the 2016/2017 season.

Do note: The Theewaterskloof (TWK) Municipality was reviewing their stance on allowing music festivals to take place within their district (Botrivier, Caledon, Genadendal, Grabouw, Greyton, Riviersonderend, Villiersdorp). Still no word, but you’ll know as soon as we do! Subscribe to our newsletter here.

CAPE TOWN TRANCE PARTY CALENDAR:  .

TRANSylvania presents: Redemption Island Part 2 Outdoor Party (13 – 14 May 2017)
It's getting close trance people! Your bag should be packed and your tickets should be bought! Hot off the success of their November edition, relative newcomers TRANSylvania are returning to their Redemption Island for another instalment of madness in Malmesbury. After a bump in the road, part 2 has been moved to May, and the original headliner (Gonzi) has confirmed that he is available for the new date. The line-up times are listed on their Facebook page, so get ready for your next trance adventure! Please remember that between 12am on Saturday and 8am on Saturday, the party does wireless and you will need to rent bluetooth headphones!
TICKETS: Tickets are available online via Quicket.co.za for R350p/p. Sunday Funday tickets are R250p/p.

Phoenix Festival of Fire – (23 – 25 June 2017)
Celebrate rebirth, in the season of renewal, with the 2017 edition of ‘Phoenix Festival of Fire’. Vortex Trance Adventures took us back to the Circle of Dreams (Riviersonderend) for 2016 and brought amazing international acts like Side Effects (Israel), Bouncerz (Israel), Creator (Switzerland) and Kai Mathesdorf (Germany), along with lekker locals like DJ Mark, Bernz and many more. We hope you packed your wellies because we heard this one was muddy. The venue is confirmed and so is the line-up so don't delay and start planning for the coldest jol of the year!
TICKETS: Tickets are available online via Quicket.co.za for between R350p/p and R450p/p. If you have any issues or questions, please head over to their Facebook page - Vortex Trance Adventures.

Sunflower Festival - (26 - 27 August 2017)
Hosted at the Cape Town Ostrich Ranch, Sunflower usually turns to face the sun August. The 2016 acts were the dirty-trance master Gonzi, progressive maestro Captain Hook, the insanely epic Mandragora and Cape Town lads Deliriant, Headroom, Yeti and everyone's favourite trance lady, Sway. Sunflower is always the season opener, and what a way to do it! This year they have secured Vini Vici! If memory serves me correctly, Vini Vici was billed to appear at a festival last year but due to unforeseen circumstances he had to pull out. Calling all Vini Vici fans, he is finally coming to Cape Town again!
TICKETSTickets are available online at Computicket.com and at all Computicket outlets. Super Early Bird tickets are R290p/p, and the rest are a mystery. We will keep you updated!

Alien Safari Sprung - September 2017 - Date to be Confirmed
If you’re of the school of thought that only a trance institution like Alien Safari can kick off the outdoor psy calendar, then this is the obvious season-starting shindig for you. The headline acts in 2016 were Earthling, UK beatmaker K.i.M, Microdot hailing from Austria and another UK trancer Sonic Species.
TICKETS: Ticketing details are yet to be released.

Earthdance - September 2017 - Date to be Confirmed
Yes that's right, this one is confirmed too. Yay for Earthdance 2016. This is their 20th anniversary year, and they're heading to Nekkies Estate in Worcester. The theme is 'Global Shift', so think futuristic people! Last year’s Earthdance shaped up to be a super fresh out-of-this-world experience. The legendary and internationally linked-up party reverted in 2015 to a two-day jol but this year, Earthdance will once again be a three day festival. The line-up includes The Commercial Hippies, Sadhu Sensi, Headroom and more.
TICKETSTicketing details are yet to be released.

Organik Gaian Dream – October 2017 – Date to be Confirmed
This long-time outdoor trance party staple crash-landed onto a whole new natural playground last October, and rumour has it the mysterious location had a forest and a dam. Keen.
TICKETS: Ticketing details are yet to be released.

PsynOpticz Presents Jungala – (10 - 12 November 2017)
Jungala is one of the biggest parties on the trance calendar, and for the very first time last year, there was a second Jungala event! The Magic of Jungala took the form of a one night party at Hillcrest Quarry. The headline acts included Bliss (Israel), Vertigo (Mexico), Mystical Complex (Israel) and more! There will also be some locals to make sure the line-up is extra lekker.
TICKETS: Ticketing details are yet to be released.

Jungala Festival - (10 - 12 November 2017)
If you can’t quite bare to think about the end of summer 2017, try to look forward to one of the biggest festivals around. The contributors of the 2016 raucousness included Ital (Chile), Stereo Plug and Eclipse Echoes (both from Brazil), and Obliviant (Netherlands).
TICKETS: Ticketing details have yet to be released.

Alien Safari 21 Years of Magic - CANCELLED
Regrettably, Alien Safari's 21 Years of Magic has been cancelled due to an emergency. Check out their Facebook page for more info - Alien Safari.
TICKETS: You can get a refund for your ticket through Quicket.co.za. If you have any problems, please contact the organisers directly.

Vortex Open Source - December 2017 - Date to be Confirmed
Hosted at the Circle of Dreams, just outside of Riviersonderend, Vortex: Open Source is a must for any summer loving trancer. It is usually in December, but why not plan ahead? Keep an eye on their Facebook page for more details!
TICKETS: Ticketing details are yet to be released.

Rezonance New Year’s Eve Festival - December 2017 - Date to be Confirmed
Normally this list is reserved for full trance parties only, but when the line-up is this sick, how can we not? Rezonance Festival moved to Pat Busch Mountain Reserve in Robertson for the 2016/2017 edition, and the 2017/2018 edition is going to take it up a noych once again. Keep New Years open people, you are not going to want to miss this!
TICKETS: Ticketing details are yet to be released.

Origin Music and Art Festival – January 2018 - Date to be Confirmed
As always with Origin, count on swimming dams, food and drink stalls and plenty of debauchery. The festival includes so much more than just music, so get involved. Last year the trance staple was hosted at Elandskloof Farm near Greyton and the organisers secured some legendary artists for the line-up including Loud, Magik and James West. We cannot wait for the 2018 edition.
TICKETS: Ticketing details are yet to be released.

Alien Safari Masqued Ball - February 2018 - Date to be Confirmed
Masqued Ball is another example of a stomp-fest with music and a venue that must have been made in trance heaven. The 2017 spectacular was hosted by the sea, just further along the coast than Gordons Bay. This one is in our diaries for sure, we wouldn’t miss it! Details are a little thin on the ground but we will keep you in the loop over the next few weeks.
TICKETSTicketing details are yet to be released.

Altered Sates: Lunar - March 2018 - Date to be Confirmed
After the hit that the 2017 edition was, this chilled-out experience is just what the doctor ordered to get you trancing again. This is more than just a trance event; it’s a gathering of the community. The organisers had star gazing, fire pits and a conscious movie screening at the 2016 party. There is no music on the Friday night, so keep that in mind.
TICKETS: Ticketing details are yet to be released.

Organic Love Project – April 2018 - Date to be Confirmed
Located just 100km outside of Cape Town, Utopia is the perfect trance venue. This trance party is yet to announce a few details, so keep your eyes open! Two international legends performed last year, namely UnderCover (Israel) and Darma (Israel) and believe us, we were there, it was awesome and we can’t wait to jame to this years headliners; Electric Universe and Symbolic! Keeeeeeeeeeeeen.
TICKETS: Ticketing details are yet to be released.

Ultranoize Outdoor Festival - April 2018 - Date to be Confirmed
Last year, this lekker local bash brought togethersome of SA’s most killer DJs. It promises all the vibes of a big festival, with the charm of a small one. Don’t get lost in the crowd and pack your best trance party threds (hint: bright, but comfy) and let the stomping begin. While summer will be fading, and that means the 2018 trance season will be drawing to a close (or at the very least slowing down), end of summer jols are cooler (weather wise, of course), so pack sensibly.
TICKETS: Ticketing details have yet to be released.

Eden Experience: Botanic Dreams - April 2018 - Date to be Confirmed
We all helped Eden dust off the cobwebs after being out of the spotlight for a while with their first party of 2017!It was hosted at the Garden of Eden (which is a mystery to us as well). Details are a little thin on the ground, but stay tuned, we will keep you in the loop people. Just get ready for an epic jol.
TICKETSTicketing details are yet to be released.
