Rafikis: For a quick sundowner or an all-night party with friends
Treat yourself to a night out at Rafiki's in Cape Town, the place to be for down-to-earth ambiance, chili poppers, prawn specials & sundowners on a sun kissed 35 metre balcony
Cape Town boasts many great bars where you can chill out, meet up with friends and listen to great live music while treating yourself to great food. Rafiki's Bar & Restaurant in Tamboerskloof is one of them - one of those simply lazy locations where everyone seems to never have a worry in the world, and all the time in the world.

Rafikis was established in 2000 by Miki Clark and Damion Swansborough -after driving down from Joburg in a chevy truck that could't drive faster than 50k's an hour- and has grown from a place for private dinners to the longest balcony restaurant and bar in Cape Town.

It is a a true favourite amongst Cape Town's laid-back locals, visitors and film crews.

During the Fifa World Cup in 2006 it has certainly risen to international fame with overseas flight crews reserving tables before flying their 777's to Cape Town for all the matches (especially the Dutch), afterparties, and dancing on bars.

There are several reasons why Rafiki's could be included in your night out in Cape Town. The atmosphere is one reason: Rafiki's is a place where friends meet up with old and new friends, a place where the vibe is relaxed, down-to-earth and chilled. South African, Malawian, Zimbabweand and Israeli staff creates a chilled place where laid back locals and visitors see seconds become minutes, and minutes become hours. Lazy times.

Other reasons include: The 35 metre-long sun kissed balcony; the terrific views over Lion's Head; the drinks - from cocktails to cobra beer and surprising chocolate cake shooters; the vibey live bands; and local art exhibitions.

The extremely chilled, and friendly staff coming from all over (South) Africa are always in for a good time and will recognise you on your second visit.

Capetonians also love Rafiki's for the laid-back, easy-going food. Rafiki's is famous for their great wood-fired oven pizza's (tip of the day: Try the Afghan Surprise pizza); their chili poppers (a jalapeno pepper stuffed with cheese and deep fried); and last, but certainly not least, their prawn special.

The prawn special is a true treat for seafood lovers on a budget. Between noon and 15:00 you get a massive heap of prawns (500g) at a price that makes sense.

So if you're in the area, pop in at Rafikis for a quick drink or an all-night-long experience: Starting with a sundowner, a pizza and possibly a live performance; and ending... whenever the night may end.
