The Roosevelt club derived its name and its ethos from the old-world glamour of the iconic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel - once the playground of stars like Clark Gable, Greta Garbo and Marilyn Monroe. Massive renovations in 2005 have seen to it that the hotel is once again frequented by Hollywood's A-list. Everyone from Paris Hilton to Scarlet Johansson has been spotted living it up at the hotel's nightclub, Teddy's.
Cape Town's The Roosevelt club encapsulated the spirit of this legendary hotel and emulates its timeless vintage-chic interior. Like its Hollywood namesake, the gorgeous art deco building in which the club was housed is also steeped in history: Its walls have sheltered everything from a Mission station to a vintage car repair shop.
Inside The Roosevelt, the decor was urbane and sexy in a rock-'n-roll-chic-meets-seventies-James-Bond kind of way. One could almost picture a suave and suited Roger Moore - five o' clock shadow creeping up the side of his chin - sipping a Martini on one of Roosevelt's chocolate brown couches; a foxy brunette on his side.
