An absolute local favorite in Cape Town is the Neighbourhood Goods Market in Woodstock on a Saturday
Looking for unique things to do in Cape Town? Dying to know where the those chilled down to earth , food and unique little thing s loving locals hang out?

Visit the Old Biscuit Mill Neighbourhood Goods Market in Woodstock on a Saturday, early morning or for afternoon lunch.

It's actually know as the 'Neighbourgoods Market', but we're not sure if anyone actually reads it right..

Woodstock (neighbouring bohemian Observatory) might used to have been and still sometimes be one of Cape Town's more dubious suburbs, but like Soho in the late 1960's it is fast undergoing a revival and Cape Town's artists, writers, and intellectuals are flocking there to avoid the property rush.

The Old Biscuit Mill (A city heritage site dating back to the 19th century) in Lower Woodstock has recently been renovated and now boasts a unique selection of shops of Cape Town's finest creative craftspeople. The Neighbourgoods Market simply just rocked Woodstock back on the Map.

The weekly Neighbourhood Goods organic food and art market (hosted by the What if the World art collective) is a delightful new addition to this thriving family. The market, housed in one of the mill's large warehouses, is a relatively new venture, but already it's a hive of activity.

Open every Saturday (between 9am and 4pm), the Neighbourhood Goods Market is becoming the one day of the week when Cape Town's hippies, yuppies, trendsetters, artists, housewives and grandmothers all come together to sample the same delightful fare for sale.

You can buy almost any type of local produce here, from indigenous wildflowers like proteas to kudu biltong, organic chocolate (handmade in Knysna) infused with Cape Malay spices and beautiful Nu-African leather accessories from Miss Ibaba. Or purchase some Afro Rooibos tea (packaged in African Pop Art inspired tins).

Nibble on a traditional South African koeksister whilst stocking up on organic olives, vegetables, coffees, pastries and wines. Or treat yourself to trendy handcrafted clothes, jewellery and decor.

All produce on sale
is produced along ethical and eco-friendly lines and proudly made and sold by the local community of Cape Town and the larger Western Cape Region.

The atmosphere is incredibly vibrant and welcoming. Most of the vendors encourage you to sample their food, sweets, jams, spreads and sauces. Stories are swapped and weekly gossip caught up on around the long wooden table in the centre of the market, or on the hay bales in the shaded area outside.

So be one of the first overseas visitors to head over to Cape Town's freshest hotspot for those in-the-know; support Cape Town's hippest local artists, designers, organic culinary artists and farmers and experience the charm of the Old Biscuit Mill before the rest of the world catches on.

If you're in the mood for an intimate and unique South African shopping experience with a human touch, the Neighbourhood Goods market comes recommended. It's truly on of the unique places for lunch in cape town on a Saturday.
