Choo-choo along the Garden Route Coastline
Take the Outeniqua Choo-Choo, one of South Africa's few remaining steam trains, from George to Knysna & enjoy some of the most spectacular views.
Another highlight of the Garden Route is the Outeniqua Choo-Choo, or Outeniqua  Choo Tjoe, one of South Africa's few remaining steam trains. The route was originally one of the most expensive stretches of rails in the world.

The train runs in between George and Knysna along the coastline of South Africa's lake district on the Garden Route, with stops in Sedgefield, Wilderness and Goukamma. It takes travellers over lakes, through forests, along beaches and plunging cliffs. It is an experience never to forget, especially when it huffs and puffs over the spectacular Kaaiman River Bridge!

The Outeniqua Choo Choo departs from George three times daily and you can either do a return train ride on the day, straight, or with a 2,5h stop in Knysna.

A romantic getaway for example is to take the Outeniqua Choo Choo from Wildeness to Knysna and spend the night overlooking the Knysna lagoon. Take the beautiful return steam train ride to George the next day...
