African Body Butter Massage

“The tranquil sound of running water. The presence of grand old trees. Constantly changing vistas of mountain and vineyards. A sense of understated luxury. Relax, rejuvenate and restore mind, body and soul amongst the breathtaking vineyards of a Wine Estate in the shadow of Table Mountain.”

“Wow,” I think. And this is only the spa brochure.

I have the pleasure to feel "wow” on a Friday afternoon. A great and relaxed start into my weekend. The Constantia Uitsig Spa is located on the beautiful  Constantia Uitsig wine estate in Cape Town. The scenic drive there makes me realize again that life in Cape Town is blessed with the beauty and harmony of the vineyards.

The natural beauty provides a relaxation for the mind, never mind the physical relaxation awaiting at a spa with a fabulously fresh atmosphere. Soft earthy colours, friendly female staff and relaxing relaxing nature sounds set the scene at the Constantia Uitsig spa, while minimalisitc decoration adds a feel of pure luxury. The changing room has a walk-in steam room and luxury products for face and body are available to sample.

I am here for an African body butter massage. Masseuse Praline collects me in the changing room and leads me to one of the five treatment rooms. A blissful 40 minutes lie ahead of me. The body butter from Theranaka has heavenly aromas plus Praline’s massage-techniques are so much more than I expected. My back, my neck, my legs, my feet – every part of my body gets special attention

After this massage I feel re-born. You really just have to experience it for yourself. I chill in the relaxation room with fresh fruit and my book for a while. Ah, time for the weekend.

Driving back to town, I know that I will have to go back for more blissful moments in this winelands heaven.

Uplifting Aromatherapy Massage

Diet? Balanced. Well, I try. Excercise? Twice a week. Most of the time. Smoking? No. Not as a habit. Drinking? Moderately. Uhm... Stress level? High. Super high, in fact I’m a stress junkie.

I give my filled out questionnaire back to the serene looking spa therapist at the Constantia Uitsig spa. She smiles as though she’s got all the time in the world and leaves me to the lull of the water fountain and the tranquillity of the courtyard. It won’t take her long to figure out that I’m going to need an extra soothing massage.

Everything is decadent at the Constantia Uitsig spa, from the majestic Constantia Winelands surrounds to the serene spa manager and Clarins products in the change room. Spa therapist Praline (yes, like the chocolate) leads me to a soft lit room and suggests the Uplifting oils for my aromatherapy massage. It’s a mix of citrus and eucalyptus for rejuvenating the senses and opening up my respiratory system.

Praline’s gentle touch quickly soothes me into a dreamy state and erases the last bit of tension from my muscles. I fall asleep – must be because somewhere between Praline moving between my left and right side I lose track. The smell of the oils are invigorating and relaxing at the same time.

This is by far the best massage I’ve ever had. Having been so stressed out on arrival I now feel not the faintest bit of tension in my body. I feel absolutely relaxed, while my mind feels sharp and my senses heightened.

Once back home, I soon fall into bed and the deepest sleep I’ve had in months. I just hope I can maintain this state of balance. Or Praline might have to mould me back there sometime soon.
