Seal Snorkeling and Fun Dives with Into The Blue Scuba Dive Centre

From shipwrecks and Cape Fur seals to Mako sharks and natural reefs, explore Cape Town’s unique underwater wonders with diving experts

Cape Town; with her majestic Table Mountain, celebrated Cape Winelands and spectacular wildlife reserves – to name only a few of her many gems – on the ground, the Mother City pretty much has it all boasting a plethora of exciting attractions and out-of-this-world adventures. And while these iconic landmarks and proudly Capetonian activities are an absolute must-do; one mustn’t forget what lies beyond the Cape’s magnificent shoreline and beneath her pristine Atlantic surface…

Here, an entire new realm – an underwater ’Zen’ filled with playful seals, apex predators, natural wonderments and sunken ships – waits to be explored; eager to be discovered by those who dare to dip into its cool, enigmatic waters. In fact, according to Theo Prinsloo, Into The Blue Scuba Dive Centre’s passionate owner and accomplished PADI-certified scuba diving instructor; while the city’s surface holds an inimitable charm, its true allure lies below its enchanted waters.

“Approximately 70% of the earth is underwater and it’s an entirely different world down there,” explains Theo. “There is such a big part of nature underwater that you’ll only ever get to see if you scuba dive, especially in Cape Town.”

And indeed, with its endless mystic kelp forests (a must-dive for many), diverse ocean life (including the unassuming cow shark and energetic Cape fur seal) as well as over 800 shipwrecks littered across the seafloor, the Cape Peninsula coastline truly does offer some of the most beautiful and varied scuba diving opportunities available across the globe, suitable for all diving preferences and qualifications. And Into The Blue is here to assist.

Taken by the underwater world and exploring it, Theo founded Into The Blue Scuba Dive Centre back in 2010 as a premier dive shop seeking to encourage others, from all around the world, to fall in love – again and again – with the Mother City’s incredible ocean and all its subaquatic awes. Today, the Cape Town diving company and shop has been internationally recognised as a PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) 5-star IDC centre, in 2016 was awarded Trip Advisor’s Certificate of Excellence and proudly claims over seven in-house PADI-certified diving instructors and masters.

With a strong emphasis on high-quality, safety and customer interaction and commitment, Into The Blue offers clients an array of snorkeling and diving adventures (suitable for all diving statures), various internationally recognised PADI-certified diving courses (from beginner to professional level) as well as a top quality dive shop (sales and rentals).

“We really believe in quality [from the diving equipment used to the snorkeling or diving excursion] and we want to provide a high-quality experience for everyone,” expands the hands-on owner, who claims over 10-years of diving experience himself.

“All of our staff members are highly-educated PADI diving instructors who know our area and waters very well. Furthermore, our boat ratio is small as we team up to a maximum of five divers per a dive master – we really just try to give an exciting and comfortable experience to every client.”

Offering a wide range of snorkeling and fun, both shore and boat, diving opportunities, Into The Blue prides itself on providing the very best and exciting ocean excursions in the Cape. What’s more, not all of the dives require a qualified scuba diving certification, making it possible for non-divers to also enjoy the aquatic experience. These fun dives take the form of Cape fur seal snorkeling, scuba diving amongst the Cape’s reefs and shipwreck as well as with Cape fur seals, cow sharks and mako and blue sharks.

SNORKELING: Cape Fur Seals

Ideal for non-divers – as no certified diving certificate is needed – snorkeling with Cape fur seals is a fun and adventurous experience. As most seal action typically occurs within the top five metres of the ocean’s surface, snorkelers can watch and interact with the playful creatures from above. According to Theo, seals are one of the most curious and active marine animals in the water (on land it’s a different story) and it’s very common for them to skilfully and swiftly perform acrobatic moves right in front of snorkelers making for an even more exhilarating experience.

SCUBA DIVING: Shipwrecks, Nature, Reefs, Cape Fur Seals, Cow Sharks, Mako and Blue Sharks

Explore forgotten shipwrecks, the Cape’s unique reefs and brilliant kelp forests or dive with Cape fur seals, cow sharks and mako and blue sharks.  To scuba dive, divers must be certified and at least have an Open Water or Advanced Open Water (depending on the dive) certification. Any certified diving certification is acceptable.

Ultimately, Into the Blue Scuba Dive Centre offers ocean adventurers an array of Mother City marine excursions to explore the underwater wonders of Cape Town and discover her true, somewhat hidden and unrivalled allure.

“Diving is really calming, which is quite strange for an extreme sport,” concludes Theo. “But as soon as you go under the water it becomes so quiet. No one is talking, there are no cell phones and everything down there looks as if they’ve found their Zen.”

So, snorkel or scuba dive with Into The Blue Scuba Dive Centre in Cape Town and find your underwater Zen.
