Chill out to the sounds of celebrated South African musician Ringo Madlingozi and listen this South African music online. This award-winning pop musician's style is a soulful fusion of traditional Xhosa music blended with township jazz, contemporary kwaito and other distinctly local sounds.

In the span of his career, Ringo has produced over a dozen albums and performed and collaborated with a host of different famous South African and international artists - like Simply Red, Eric Clapton, Hugh Masekela, UB40, SA kwaito star Mandoza and Caiphus Semenya (for the film, The Lion King).

The multi-talented singer, drummer and guitarist, was born in the Cape Town township of Gugulethu. His first foray into the entertainment world was still at school - where he led an A cappella group that performed at community functions.

His childhood nickname, Ringo (in reference to the Beatles drummer, Ringo Star), was born out of his passion for drumming.

Ringo first shot to fame when - as frontman for the band Peto - the group won the Shell Road to Fame talent competition in 1986. The award led to them performing alongside musical legend, Eric Clapton, at the King's Trust concert in Swaziland.

His career took a dramatic turn for the best when he met Bob Marley's ex-producer, Chris Blackwell, who encouraged him to sing in his native tongue. Blackwell also inspired Ringo to start seeing his music as a powerful weapon for social change.

This meeting made a deep impression on Ringo and he set out on a mission to "create music that will heal". Ringo is renowned for his inspirational music and his plights to raise awareness around important social issues like aids, poverty, violence, abuse and drugs.
