One of the items in our Arrival Package is a special welcoming present made by Streetwires. Touch the beads, see and admire the creativity and feel the heart, soul and pulse of Cape Town.

Streetwires is one of the many community projects in Cape Town and South Africa that tries to make a difference by focusing on the unique genre of wire art. The enterprise trains formerly unemployed South Africans in making a living by channeling their creative energies into this vibrant art form.

As a store and craft workshop, Streetwires helps disadvantaged South-Africans to create and sell their unique South African wire art. Some pieces are woven with multicolored telephone wire, others are bent wire and adorned with beads.

Socially conscious Streetwires employs 90 men and women. Since not too long, their art is exported to 11 countries. The artists of Streetwires make everything from rhinos and chandeliers to animals, key chains, working radios and motorcycles. Our tip? The Streetwires new Nguni cattle range.

The Streetwires showroom can be visited
in the city of Cape Town, right in the centre. The exact location of Streetwires is between Bo Kaap and De Waterkant, on 77 Shortmarket Street.

We from CapeTownMagazine.com would like to introduce you to Streetwires by including a small welcoming present in our Arrival Package.

The CapeTownMagazine.com Arrival Package also includes a Time Out magazine,  a CD of choice (to be chosen from our Pulse section), Khayelitsha Cookies, a pickup from the airport, a free simcard, a city guide to Cape Town, maps to the winelands and much more.
