Describe Cape Town in 5 words
Life filling, complex, laid-back, intriguing, home.

What are you doing in Cape Town?
Combining all experiences on CapeTownMagazine.com in the next years and building the largest newsletter unwrapping Cape Town and South Africa.

Cape Town or Johannesburg?
Joburg for transformation and Cape Town for its cosmopolitan future and developing present. Or perhaps like the song: Joburg's the city, Cape Town's the club.

People of Cape Town: who or what made an impression
This is a case of opening a book. The mechanic filling up the bottle of a homeless guy on Bree Street. It impresses me that if you look, people are trying to live with everyone. Many things are changing if you see it.

Something people shouldn't forget:
Many white people are/were not racist. In my opinion the situation in South Africa is portrayed more black/white then it really was, which was probably necessary. But not always right.
Also: never judge before knowing. I know people that seem to live it large, but who also have assisted in building orphanages. It is incredible how many people, from all layers of society, who try to contribute to a better world.

Which Musical Experience makes the mark?
Listening to Mafikizolo coming out of a minibus, Carmina Burana Opera in Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, Aqua opera at the V&A Waterfront.

Which Street Corner of Cape Town you enjoy most?
Lola's on the Corner of Long and Bloemstreet. Gay, trendy yet definitely not trendy, alternative, great curries and sandwiches, and always slow service. Anyone from 50-year old tourists to 16-year-olds, and everything in between, goes there.

Favourite expression & rumor?
After that merger I could have taken this Moerse Gogga (big ugly thing) and Gooi (throw) him out of the window!. Or earlier this year: rumour has that Nelson Mandela will be the new pope.

Best dialect heard?
Unfortunately: "You ma se p....!"

Best Joke heard in South Africa?
....An apartheid joke: Botha en Bishop Tutu are making an effort to come closer to one another. They decide to take a boat trip together. At one moment Botha's hat blows into the ocean. Tutu gets out of the boat, walks on water, picks up the hat, walks back to the boat on water and hands over Botha his hat. The headlines in the newspaper the next day? "Tutu can't swim!"

Best Experience in Cape Town?
Whales within 10 meters reach on a quiet Sunday morning. Making it work with friends in Philippi. Sailing around the Cape. FreshlyGround at Rafiki's during Nicholas Cage's mid-shoot party. Seeing Mandela during a 46664 concert. Combat flight in a Huey helicopter. Being surrounded by hundreds of dolphins near Mouille Point. Sundowners at Mzoli's. Seeing 5 old musicians in Gugulethu, easily outplaying the Buena Vista Social Club. Setting up CapeTownMagazine.com

Best Meals in Cape Town and environs?
From Tokara to Beluga, from Ganesh to Royale, from the ‘be seen' at 95 Keerom to seeing the waiter having a meal before putting order through at the old Diablo's. There are only a few places in the world that offer this amount of incredible eateries and top cuisine in just one city.

What do you think no one knows about you & Cape Town?
One day I was invited for lunch at the Mount Nelson Hotel, but I couldn't go due to a deadline. It was only later that I heard that Madiba (Nelson Mandela) was there as well, and that he shook hands with every one present.

Best South African Song reflecting this country?
Tssss. I already have more than 24 songs ready for...
Cape Town Magazine Must Cape etc
