Watch the great online movie on the African Brothers soccer academy project in Cape Town South Africa, or read more about the township football tour Cape Town.
The African Brothers Soccer Project was founded by Ex Orlando Pirate Soccer player Craig Hepburn, and his close friend Siphiwe Cele in 1999.
Hepburn has successfully set up soccer projects in Cape Town's townships in the past and has now included soccer tours in townships to enable people to enjoy Cape Town's townships and actually play soccer, train and coach them.
One of these teams (The Homestead Team) were flown to England but before departing got to meet former president Nelson Mandela.
The Soccer Academy project was started around the idea of building a foundation, through football, to help make South Africa the rainbow nation that it is fast becoming today.
This practical soccer project has a hands-on approach with the right parameters in place and is based on normal business principles.
Craig & Siphiwe decided to create a team that will set an example of the unification of black and white people in South Africa.
The African Brothers youth soccer development project aims to have soccer academies in all the townships across Cape Town & the Western Cape before the kick-off of the World Cup Football Tournament in 2010.
With the 2010 World Cup coming to South Africa this soccer initiative finally has the opportunity to succeed.
African Brothers’ objective is to teach youngsters about being team players, at the same time creating work for illiterate and unemployed adults of the townships in Cape Town, giving them a chance to be ambassadors for their community.
This unique soccer project, based in Cape Town adopted the mindset that to be able to help in the development of a country you don’t necessarily need charity. But you do need experienced people (like Craig and Siphiwe) who have a passion to produce soccer players, build soccer talent and provide a soccer academy in which to grow soccer players in Cape Town.
Soccer development in the Western Cape is the main drive for Hepburn and all he wants to achieve is to enable more soccer talent to grow, to play and to succeed.
African Brothers also has a life skills programme, teaching street kids about the dangers of drugs as well as sessions on HIV, TB and Crime prevention.
CapeTownMagazine.com is in the process of selecting African Brothers Soccer Academy Project as a project to anchor for the coming three years.
