Oppikoppi: One Night in Cape Town Concerts

Oppikoppi’s international headliners take on the Mother City before rocking out at the main Limpopo fest

The annual Oppikoppi Festival (5 - 7 August 2016) never makes it all the way down south to the mother city, but for the sixth year running, the headlining acts of the mammoth festival will journey to Cape Town for three One Night concerts on 5, 8 and 10 August 2016.

KONGOS at Hillcrest Quarry on Friday, 5 August 2016
This year’s headliner is none other than South African born lads, the KONGOS. These legendary music makers were born in SA, raised in the UK and now live and make music in America making them the epitome of an ‘international’ band. The group’s newest album, Egomaniac, is set to be released on Friday, 10 June 2016, and will, no doubt, feature some of the songs they intend to play at Hillcrest Quarry on Friday, 5 August 2016. This event has a history of selling out incredibly fast, so do yourself a favour and get tickets while you still can. KONGOS will be accompanied by some local bands – which ones exactly remains a mystery, but we will keep you updated on other artists that sign on when you subscribe to our newsletter.

YELAWOLF at the Assembly on Monday, 8 August 2016
This American super star, born Michael Wayne Atha, is a master at fusing hip-hop and country into one amazing musical experience. After signing to Eminem’s Shady Records in 2011, his first album Radioactive debuted at number twenty-seven on Billboard’s top 200 list. His second studio album with Shady Records, Love Story was released in 2015 and featured the smash hit Best Friend with a guest appearance from his label-boss Eminem.

AUGUST BURNS RED at the Assembly on Wednesday, 10 August 2016
August Burns Red is a Christian metal core band hailing from the land of the free (America). These rockers have covered topics such as depression, social tolerance and grief, making them increasingly relevant to their younger fans. Their latest album Found in Far Away Places, released in 2015, contains the Grammy nominated Identity (it was nominated in 2015 for Best Metal Performance).
