The Loop Club
Cape Town's newest nightclub
Cape Town's newest nightclub
The Loop, as you may have guessed, is situated on Loop Street on the corner of Pepper Street. The location is key; surrounded by a number of new and well-established bars as well as happening restaurants making it the ideal go-to spot by ‘that’ stage of the night.
And some go-to spot it is; with three levels and décor slicker than an oil spill, it’s clear that the idea behind The Loop was to give the Long Street party district that which it was lacking—a world-class night club.
First impressions are always important. A Bo-Kaap-inspired lumo colour scheme and multicoloured neon ‘The Loop’ sign combine to paint a colourful picture. A theme that's carried throughout the club.
After a chat with, rather suave-looking, uniformed bouncers we snake through a corridor to find ourselves at one end of the dance floor (and being a sound-and-lights man myself I immediately noticed the impressive lighting rig overhead which drenched the crowd below in a writhing neon blanket). Running parallel to the dance floor is a bar at least 20 metres long, its top shelf of bottles glistening under a large neon ‘The Loop’ making it (liquid) crystal (display) clear exactly where you are. Five minutes inside and I’ve already made my mind up; the place exudes quality and the glowing branding pushes the point home that this club is quite literally creating a name for itself.
After a stop at the bar we walk into the first lounge and marvel at the retro chic glowing couches. I detach from the crowd, and steal away upstairs, at this stage I fancy myself a night club voortrekker keen to survey every nook and cranny and find a place to um... yeah not sure where that analogy is going.
Upstairs I walk into what could easily pass for a chic city night spot by itself: a large smoking area with its own bar that leads onto a spacious balcony overlooking Pepper Street in one direction and another glowing lounge in the other. This is the place to get your social on—as it’s sound-proofed to just the right level, saving you from that awkward moment when the DJ fades a track out and you shout out your cheesiest pick up line.
After our routine discussion on the pitfalls of string theory and its attempts to reconcile quantum physics with the theory of relativity... my mates and I decide it’s time for the serious business of shooters over at the VIP section. In a jiffy we’re at the VIP bar with its lounge section overlooking the main dance floor below. The Loop’s versatility at this stage is more than apparent. It has everything a top tier club needs and it could easily lend itself to a hip hop, house, commercial or techno night with all the pedigree to attract SA’s finest as well as top international DJs.
And there’s more: another two lounges decked out to impress with more glowing furniture and crisp lines. The larger lounge hosts a staircase that leads up to the third floor, a spacious attic with dark stained wooden floors, cosy furniture and yet another bar.
All in all the Loop will cement its place as a Cape Town favourite, its location being a huge draw card and offering the same kind of experience as other Cape Town super clubs such as; Trinity and The Fez. Warm-up at places like The Concept, The Waiting Room, 169 On Long Street, The Dubliner, Long Street Cafe, Mexican kitchen, Tommy’s Sports Bar and much, much more with the bustling Long Street and trendy Kloof Street a short walk away.
