OPEN! Top of The Ritz – Fine Dining with Spectacular Views at Cape Town’s Revolving Restaurant
At Top of The Ritz, the revolving restaurant with unparalleled 360 views, the food is delicious without being pretentious
Dinner at the Top Of The Ritz is without a doubt something to put on your Cape Town bucket list. And the revolving restaurant is now open!
The city’s only revolving restaurant is on the 23rd floor of The Ritz hotel, sporting an unrivalled 360-degree view of the Atlantic Ocean, the mountain, and the cityscape – literally as far as the eye can see.
The experience begins as you exit the lift on the 22nd floor where bubbly, oysters and strawberries are served in the Champagne Lounge. A red-carpeted staircase leads you up to the restaurant itself, where the menu reflects a journey through the flavours of Cape Town and its surrounds, as interpreted by group executive chef Adrian Cook.
“The premise is delicious food that is not in any way pretentious,” he says. “These are the dishes I love eating. As a local you’ll understand it, and tourists can experience different things all in one place. It’s who we are, it’s our culture.”
An amuse bouche of avocado ritz – in fitting fashion – leads into a bread course which is a play on the famed masala steak gatsby which pays homage to those Chef Adrian enjoyed on the Grand Parade. A monochrome salad course featuring a star ingredient is followed by a choice of main dishes.
Simplistic descriptions are “steak, egg and chips” and “fish and chips” but they will be anything but ordinary – although Cook emphasises that his style is about wholesome delicious simple food, which is not complicated at all. “There is not a lot of smoke and mirrors but there will be one or two theatrical elements and wow factors,” he promises.
Allowing the food and the spectacular view to do most of the talking, the décor at Top Of The Ritz is quiet and understated, repeating those familiar black and smoky mirrors found elsewhere in the hotel with sleek sophistication.
