Excellent Mother's Day Gifts That Mom Will Actually Like

Show mom how much you love her, without having to break the bank doing so

Give your mom the best gifts you can, besides your love. We've gone and found an excellent selection of presents for mother dearest, along with a few DIY gifts you can create if our gifts aren’t within your budget. Essentially, you'll be well-prepared for gift-giving come Mother's Day, Sunday, 8 May 2016.

1. A java-making workshop from Mischu
Coffee is the life-blood of hardworking moms/dads/antelopes/anyone really. Therefore, we can suggest ’enrolling’ mom at the esteemed Mischu’s Coffee Academy. The beginner's workshop is a six-hour long class and is perfect for any caffeine loving newbie. The course teaches the history of coffee-making, perfect espresso making, how to create a magnificent latte and so much more.
Price: R1250p/p

2. Personalised yoga sessions from The Om Revolution
Working out, no matter what form it takes, is extremely beneficial. Yoga is  the ideal way for mom to get fitter, happier and healthier in a relaxed, stress-free zone. Yoga’s also all setting your own fitness goals, so it’s a great pastime to pick up at any age. Om’s personalised lessons are about learning how to control your breathing and maintaining balance in your life, perfect for those looking for more than an ’ordinary’ yoga class. There are a variety of yoga options from The Om Revolution, and we suggest the outdoor group classes as the perfect place to start.
Price: From R40p/p (single group yoga session) to R300 (private session at home).

4. Something sparkly from Linde

While this present may be a bit on the steep side, it’ll certainly pay off in the long run thanks to it being a truly unique. Linde creates bespoke diamond jewellery, allowing you to customise your Mother’s Day gift any way you see fit. Each piece is a work of art, and a distinctive present that your mom will cherish for years to come.
Price: Varies according to piece, but begins at R5000.

5. Flowers!

There are many options for this, ranging from affordable to wildly expensive, meaning that flowers should be the default gift for anyone that’s lost for an idea. Most importantly, flowers show how much you care and are as irreplaceable and beautiful as all the moms out there. In fact, combine flowers with one of any of the gifts above to present an incredible gifting surprise for mom. Protip: the flower sellers on Adderly Street will help anyone struggling to come up with a beautiful presentation for mom.

6. A special gift from Kin
Kin is a ridiculously cool store that features glorious wearable art. From accessories such as rabbit-themed tote bags to gorgeous pieces of framed art, Kin is the ideal place to find something special for your maternal figure. The wearable art, perfectly formed in dainty, delicate silver is highly affordable and looks incredibly chic. Or, snag one of the oh-so-fashionable PPC Cement laptop bags so that mom can attempt to fit in with the rest of the Cape Town hipsters.
Prices: Accessories are priced from R230 and laptop cases from R405.

7. Hair and beauty care from Excentric Hair and Beauty Salon
This stylish Sea Point hair salon is celebrating Mother’s Day by giving you the chance to treat mom like the Queen that she is. When purchasing a SP Luxe Oil Keratin Restore Mask and SP Luxe Oil Conditioner, moms will receive a SP Luxe Oil Shampoo and SP Reconstructive Elixir free of charge! This promotion, which is normally valued at R1200, can be purchased for  R680. What’s more, this gift will come wrapped up in an organza bag to really surprise mom. Alternatively, you can treat mom to a pamper day by giving her an Excentric voucher valued at R750. This will treat her to a wash, haircut and style as well as an express manicure and a deluxe pedicure including a paraffin foot treatment.
Price: The SP (System Professional) product promotion rings up at R680, while an Excentric Hair Salon voucher can be purchased for R750.

8. A unique blend of gin from Wilderer
Give your mom something different this Mother’s Day and treat her to a bottle of Wilderer’s one-of-a-kind fynbos gin. This locally-made drink has a unique South African flavour and uses indigenous plants such as buchu, honeybush and fynbos roots to create a flavour you won’t find anywhere else. If gin isn’t really her thing, try out the Obstler schnaps. This German-style drink made with made apples and pears has a fruity flavour she’s bound to love.
Price: Wilderer Distillery has an assortment of drinks with prices that range from R170 to R350 per bottle.

9. Or just get your DIY on!
If these gifts don’t tickle your fancy, we’ve got some homemade present ideas for you!
-Roses in a square or round vase
This is an excellent way of jazzing up standard supermarket roses. Simply cut the flowers close to the flower and fill the vase with colourful gravel. Then, slowly and carefully, stick the vases into the gravel in the tightest possible arrangement. You’ll be amazed at how awesome it can look!
-T-shirt necklace
For the bohemian mom, we’ve got the perfect gift lined up. The instructions are a little complicated with all the details posted here. Suffice it to say, you will be slicing up a t-shirt in the name of Mother’s Day. It also requires some sewing skills and a bit of bead work but what comes out of it is something truly distinctive!
