Live Jazz at Asoka Restaurant

Turn your Tuesday up a notch with this trendy hotspot’s vibey dinner and music offering

They say that everyone who’s anyone in Cape Town knows that Tuesday is Asoka.

But what if you’re not ‘anyone’ - or more explicitly, part of the gaggle of good-looking, trendy locals that’s been frequenting the Kloof Street hotspot for what feels like eternity? Well, then listen up so you can go ahead and get excited about the fact that there’s actually something incredible to do early on in the week, when most of the Mother City’s nightlife haunts are still sleeping off Saturday’s debauchery.

Every Tuesday this long-time Mother City institution comes alive with the African flavour, motuno rhythms and lyrical melodies of Jason Reolon’s Mr Keys & The Funky Munks. The jazzy grooves round out an exclusive sensory dinner experience that starts from the moment you walk through the door and drink in the surrounding visual masterpiece.

Asoka is an artful interpretation of international culture. The eclectic decor and exotic-but-approachable fusion food have been pulled together with the utmost love and attention. Every detail, from the flickering candlelight to the ancient Dharma Tree that seems to magically wind its way up and out of the roof, has been carefully thought out, and quite appropriately, the crowd that comes to drink and dine at Asoka is equally well put together.

It’s the kind of place where you can ‘see and be seen’, and there’s no better time to check out the beautiful people than after the jazz session has come to an emphatic close. It’s then that the vibey restaurant transforms into a hipper-than-hip club, with the resident DJs spinning deep house until the wee hours of the morning.

Dinner guests are invited to stay seated and take advantage of the bottle service, and those who’ve missed out on the live music can simply stand and sip on one of the creative cocktails on offer while bopping along to the tunes and sussing out the ‘talent’.

Regardless of whether you come for a meal and the music or stay for the mayhem, if you’re looking for a trendy Tuesday night on town, there’s no better place to visit than Asoka.

BOOKING INFO AND PRICING FOR LIVE JAZZ AT ASOKA RESTAURANT

While there’s no cover charge attached to Asoka’s Tuesday jazz evenings, it is absolutely necessary to book for dinner well in advance. Keep in mind that the band strikes up at 8pm and strums to a close at 10pm.

Furthermore, if you’d like to party post the performance and skip the queue, it’s recommended that you book a table for bottle service. This round of bookings opens at 11pm.

To make a reservation, phone +27 (0) 21 422 0909.
