Wings for Life World App Run

Lace up those running shoes for a good cause!

The international sensation that is the Wings for Life World App Run is coming to the Mother City on Sunday, 7 May 2017. To be more specific, it’s hitting Sea Point Promenade hard and it all starts at 1pm local time (all around the world).

You heard it right Cape Town; the Wings for Life World Run will be taking place at 1pm local time across the world. If general fitness isn’t going to motivate you to move, then maybe being a part of a global initiative will be. This isn’t high school, usually participation doesn’t count; but this time it does, so book your space at the first Wings for Life World Run to hit Cape Town.

Wings for Life is happening in 25 cities across the world, including Melbourne, Vienna, Santiago, Munich, Milan, Dubai and more. The organisation aims to raise money for those afflicted with spinal injuries. This event is 100% wheelchair friendly, infact those in wheelchairs are actively encouraged to compete.

This run is unlike any other; there is no finish line. What? No finish line? Yes, Susan, no finish line. Instead the participants download the app that tracks their progress, and the aim is to run all in a group and stay ahead of the Catcher Car. There is also no set distance; you simply run until you have been caught by the Catcher Car. This all sounds very confusing but I assure you it is not. You start running at 1pm. At 1:30pm, the virtual Catcher Car (which you can track on the app if you are not at the actual event) starts its race and will go at 15-km/h; slowly increasing speed until the very last athletes have been caught. The last to be caught are the winners. See? Not so hard, is it Susan? The actual event takes place in Pretoria, with a real Catcher Car, but in Cape Town, you can do the run using the app.

The run is organised by the Wings for Life association, so there will be marshals, and turning points etc, there just won’t be a finish line or a set distance. Try something new with this interestingly different race that happens all over the world! Be a part of the global sensation and join the Wings for Life World Run!

ENTRANCE TO THE 2017 WINGS FOR LIFE WORLD APP RUN IN SEA POINT
