The Currie Cup tournament has been underway since the beginning of July, and so far our men in blue and white haven’t been playing too well, to be honest. Despite this, they have a chance at redemption when they take on the Sharks at the Newlands Stadium on Saturday, 3 September 2016.
Currently ranked sixth on the log, Western Province have a tough match ahead of them when they go head-to-head with the tournament frontrunners from Durban. Our local lads suffered a heartbreaking 45 – 26 defeat in their opening game against the Blue Bulls, and unfortunately failed to pull off a vital win against the Free State Cheetahs in round three of the Currie Cup. Luckily, they pulled off a 36 – 6 win against the EP Kings in their last match, so hopefully they can use this to their advantage when they face the Sharks.
On the opposite side of the field, the Sharks have won all four of their games by big margins, sending the Pumas, Griquas and Boland Cavaliers and Blue Bulls packing. Their most recent game saw them hold off the attack from the Blue Bulls, emerging victorious with a final score of 26 – 19, and further cementing their position at the top of the log.
Let’s give a helping hand to our local team by grabbing our mates and our tickets, and heading to the stadium for some much needed encouragement and support.
