Walk4Wheels by The Chaeli Campaign

Make your contribution to the Day of Persons with Disabilities

You probably don’t know that Saturday, 3 December 2016 is the internationally recognised Day of Persons with Disabilities, but we are (as ever) here to remind you. The Chaeli Campaign, a Cape Town based charity, is encouraging you all to get on your feet and make a difference on this universally recognised day of awareness.

Walk4Wheels takes the form of a fun walk/run through the streets of Bergvliet on Saturday, 3 December 2016. You can choose between either a 5km fun walk or an 8km run. Either way, the start and end point is the Bergvliet Sports Association. After you’ve finished the walk/run, the Bergvliet Sports Club will be transformed into a family-friendly inclusive playground. The kids will be kept thoroughly entertained with jumping castles and water slides, while the parents can have a bite to eat or peruse the gift stalls displaying locally made goods.

Walk4Wheels is suitable for the whole family and allows you to contribute to this incredibly worthy cause. The Chaeli Campaign was founded in the name of one incredible person - Chaeli Mycroft, who has not let her disabilities slow her down. She has even found the time to climb Kilimanjaro and finish the Comrades Marathon! Along with Chaeli, the organisation was founded in 2004 by four charitable school girls, all sharing a common goal; to mobilise children with disabilities. They intend to make society an inclusive place for people with disabilities of all kinds and they strive to leave no child unaided.

Each entry to the fun walk/run is R50p/p, excluding children in prams, and will be donated straight to the campaign that will then use it to fund some of their many life-changing programmes. They have a therapy programme that provides regular physiotherapy, speech and occupation therapy to children that really need it. The Chaeli Campaign has created an educational supplement to the Life Orientation curriculum in primary schools across Cape Town in an effort to make schools a more accepting environment for those with disabilities. These ladies are dedicated to their cause and they could really use your support!

The race starts at 9am, with late-registration opening at 8am, so make sure you get there early and start your day with a bit of exercise. Before the event, please download the registration form from their website, fill it out and send it off to shelly@chaelicampaign.co.za. This will make everything run a little smoother on the day, and you won't have to stand in line to register. The market opens at 9:30am and closes at 2pm giving you plenty of time to have a bite to eat and learn more about the work that The Chaeli Campaign is doing!

ENTRANCE TO THE 2016 WALK4WHEELS BY THE CHAELI CAMPAIGN AT BERGVLEIT SPORTS ASSOCIATION
