Summer in Cape Town is synonymous with many things; the most obvious is sun, and the second most obvious is wine. While wine tastings are common in the Cape, Harvest festivals are less so, making Vrede en Lust the perfect place to visit. The 328 year old wine farm, filled with ancient oak trees, flower blossoms galore and animals in abundance, is the perfect place to spend a lovely summer afternoon.
The 2016 Harvest Festival is taking place on Saturday the 27th of February, on the picturesque Vrede en Lust Wine Estate in Franschhoek. Gates open at 10am and upon arrival, you will receive a free Vrede en Lust wine glass and a complimentary drink to boot, and all for the bargain price of R150. Still need some convincing? Children under 12 enter absolutely free, and for children ages three to 12, a supervised parent free play area awaits. The entertainment for children includes face painting, arts & crafts, and a jumping castle. It is very important to note that tickets will not be sold at the gate, they must be pre-booked. The gates to the event will close at 5pm, so don’t leave it too late!
Guests will be serenaded with live music, and entertained with activities like Giant Jenga and Chess, and Lawn Croquet. What Harvest Festival would be complete without Grape Stomping? Well, Vrede en Lust has that and much more. Food stalls will allow guests to enjoy the best of Cape artisanal food, and fantastic Vrede en Lust wine to complete the experience. Vrede en Lust will also be offering a ‘Fruit & Wine’ tasting and pairing, with bookings working on a ‘first come first served’ basis. The first of the tasting starts at 12pm, and the second commences at 2pm.
