Who Didn’t Want To Be A Firefighter Growing Up?

Gather the family to support these unsung heroes

Rally the troops, and bring the whole family to the Volunteer Wildfire Services Annual Open Day. Happening at the Newlands Fire Base. This fun-filled family event is calling out the biggest firefighter supporters to join in the fun on Saturday 24 November 2018.

This initiative brings awareness to the everyday, unsung heroes that live among us, as well as encourage support ahead of the fire season. Before the games begin, the day starts off with firefighting demonstrations and talks about wildfires and ways to handle them. The jam-packed activities on the agenda for the kids include snake displays, outdoor exhibitions, fire truck rides, a tug-of-war, firefighting simulations with helicopters and more.

There will be a variety of food stalls available, as well as firefighting merchandise on sale for the kids. The day will close off with an epic foam party, where all the kids are invited to join in the soapy fun.

The overall purpose of the day is to create awareness about wildfires and how they can be prevented and managed, as well as recruiting helpers for the Volunteer Wildfire Services for next season.

Visitors can look forward to a day filled with fun outdoor activities while learning about local wildlife and flora affected by these fires. The Volunteer Wildfire Services are often the team responsible for mobilising a quick and efficient response to those intense and threatening runaway wildfires that happen in the dry summer months in the Western Cape.

Entry to the outdoor event is free, but attendees are encouraged to spend money on the food and refreshment stalls to support the Volunteer Wildfire Services as the Open Day is all about raising awareness.
