Vintage Ideas Market

Browse through stalls of beautiful things from a bygone era at this pop-up Franschhoek bazaar

Vintage is to Capetonians as catnip is to kitties. Some chalk up the obsession to the hipster movement, but in reality, the affinity for yesteryear’s goodies reaches far beyond this small slice of the populace. And luckily for all those lovers of antiques, old-fashioned homeware and clothes, the Vintage Ideas Market springs to life once again at the Simondium’s Country Lodge just outside of Franschhoek from Friday, 24 to Monday, 27 April 2015 (Freedom Day) under the new theme ‘Snapshots of the Past’.

Started in 2011, this bazaar is an offshoot of the popular October-November Festive Ideas Market that gives early-bird shoppers a head start on their Christmas shopping.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE 2015 VINTAGE IDEAS MARKET IN FRANSCHHOEK

VINTAGE GOODS GALORE: After years of persuading the masses to buy gleaming new clothes, furniture and trimmings, the latest trends dictate that we should look to bygone eras for inspiration for today. And so, the Vintage Ideas Market was born. This time around close to 40 vendors are scheduled to showcase their goods, so shoppers can look forward to perusing stalls selling collectible décor, handcrafted jewellery, glass- and silverware, vintage-inspired second-hand clothing, bric-a-brac, garden accessories and invaluable antiques.

FOOD, WINE & BEER: Apart from finding that perfect olden-time addition to a home, attendees can pick up savouries from the deli, sweets treats from various vendors or something yummy at the lodge’s restaurant. What’s more, if squealing over porcelain miniatures is not quite your thing, check out the beer and wine stalls or pick up some homemade condiments, preserves, spices or exotic teas.

COUNTRY WEDDING EXPO: If you’re planning a big white wedding, this vintage souk is the perfect place to find some much-needed inspiration, some gorgeous trinkets for a table centrepiece, décor ideas or that perfect something blue. This year, the market boasts a new addition, a Country Wedding Expo, that will highlight how future brides and grooms can imbue the occasion with rustic romance. Ideas Magazine will also be hosting a wedding workshop focused on teaching couples DIY décor skills on Saturday, 25 April 2015 starting at 9:30am (space is limited so book soon!) What’s more, since the bazaar is hosted at a versatile and beautiful wedding venueDIY brides can get an up-close look at a potential ‘big day’ Franschhoek space.
