Valentine's Day Party at The Foreign Exchange

Celebrate your single or taken status at this raucous red light/green light bash

Vibey Observatory-based pub The Foreign Exchange is throwing a big Cupid-style arrow through the idea that Valentine’s Day in Cape Town is exclusively for swooning couples and long-term lovers. Rather, on Saturday, 14 February 2015, the multicultural bar is hosting a lively red light/green light party that’s bound to be heaps of fun for all types:  those who are single, those who are still undecided and those who are wholly committed.

The concept for this cheeky robot-inspired bash works something like this: guests are encouraged to quite literally wear their relationship status on their sleeves, donning green if they’re available, yellow if they’re unsure (the equivalent of Facebook’s ‘it’s complicated’) and red if they’re taken. It’s a great way for all the singletons out there to get involved in the festivities (and potentially meet a future partner), and it means that hitched individuals who are anti all the big fuss can commemorate the day in a more relaxed way with mates.

What’s more, it’s a super affordable way to celebrate a typically costly occasion, as Forex (as the pub is commonly known) will waive the R50 cover charge for anyone who dresses in one of the three key hues. And guests can save on drinks too; in keeping with the theme of the evening, a range of red and green tipples will be sold throughout the night. What’s more, there will also be a photo booth on site to capture all the colourful memories!

Of course, party-goers can opt for more conventionally coloured bevies too. The second-storey bar serves red and white wine, plenty of draught craft beer, an assortment of colourful cocktails, premium tequila, pitchers of ale and more. Plus, it even dishes up a few tasty bites – think chicken kebabs, nachos, burritos and samoosas – for the peckish (do note that the kitchen closes at 10pm).

Once sweethearts and soloists are well lubricated, and as the colours start to blur, they can move away from the watering hole’s enclosed beach-style balcony – it boasts a spectacular view over the rooftops of Observatory – and onto the dance floor, where DJs will spin groovy commercial tunes until the early hours of the morning.

It may not be your standard Valentine’s Day event, but Forex’s robot bash is bound to be a whole lot more memorable than an ordinary fancy dinner and a whole lot more fun than taking your single frustrations out on heart-shaped piñatas at home.

TICKETS FOR THE 2015 VALENTINE’S DAY PARTY AT THE FOREIGN EXCHANGE

As mentioned, entry to the Valentine’s Day party costs R50p/p, but those who wear green, red or yellow can get in for free. It’s not necessary to book beforehand – just arrive all coloured up and ready for a good time.

The party kicks off at around 8pm and continues until 2am.
