Celebrating its sixteenth year of philanthropy, the Edujazz concert returns once more to promote and nurture local jazz talent. This initiative has been a long-standing feature on the Cape Town music-lovers calendar, and this year promises to be even better than the last. The concert will be open for one night only on Saturday, 4 June 2016 at the Artscape Theatre.
The headline act for 2016 is local lad Jimmy Nevis. This talented 23 year-old brings the pop back into South African popular music. He hails from the Cape Flats, and he is proud of it. We can’t wait to see Jimmy Nevis hit the stage.
The other performers at this year’s edition are The Belhar Music Collective and the Edujazz Big Band. Both are incredibly established in the Cape Town jazz scene and their performances are bound to be sensational.
The Belhar Music Collective has travelled to the Grahamstown National Arts Festival and have recently featured in the Artscape’s Jazz Festival. This eight piece performance group hails from Belhar, and these proud Capetonians are excited to perform for you at this special day.
The Edujazz Big Band is made up of talented musicians from the University of Cape Town, Stellenbosch University and Rondebosch Boys High School. The band comes to this event hot off their performance at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival.
This concert aims to benefit aspiring musicians from low-income areas and provide them with a platform to develop and showcase their musical skills.
