Cancelled: The Harlem Globetrotters Basketball Team Tour to Cape Town

UNFORTUNATELY, THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED

---

Our favourite squad is back in town! Basketball fans around the Mother City and beyond are getting their Globetrotters jerseys ready, sharpening up their ball skills and reading up on this year’s all-star players in anticipation of the US-based exhibition team’s long-awaited return. Having been absent from our fair city for almost two decades, the girls and guys in stripes are back to enthral South African supporters with lots of laughs and their exceptional athleticism. You can catch them at the GrandWest Grand Arena on Wednesday, 1 July and Thursday, 2 July 2015.

The Globetrotters are synonymous with sensational ball-handling wizardry, rim-rattling dunks and superb trick shots that defy gravitational limits. What makes their performance so mind-blowing is the seamless integration of athletic excellence, smart humour and plenty of on-court fan interaction.  They’re natural entertainers, and their spectacular showmanship is guaranteed to keep the whole family’s eyes glued to the action.

SIX REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH THE HARLEM GLOBETROTTERS IN CAPE TOWN

THEY’VE GOT MAD SKILLS: Seriously, the number of World Records this team has broken with their daring dunks is quite flabbergasting. Watch this video of star player Bucket Blakes breaking the Guinness World Record for the most basketball underhand half-court shots in one minute!

IT’S ENTERTAINMENT FOR EVERONE: Mixing skill with comedy, theatre and fun, the Globetrotters are unparalleled entertainers who will keep the whole family smiling and engrossed, regardless of whether they’re staunch basketball fans or not! One of the show’s fundamental aims is to provide an enjoyable way for families to spend quality time together whilst having a great day out.

TATA MADIBA WAS AN HONOURARY GLOBETROTTER: Another thing that makes this team so dear to our hearts is the fact that our very own Nelson Mandela was an honorary Globetrotter! Madiba celebrated his birthday two decades ago by watching the Globetrotters dominate the court – an honour for the Harlem team, of course.

THEY JUST KEEP GETTING BETTER: Today, the players continue to strive to reach new heights and the dedicated male and female athletes comprising the squad are some of the best in the world. From Hi-Lite to TNT, the talent fostered in the group is the reason behind its continued success.

THEY’RE PASSIONATE ABOUT DOING GOOD: The players are known as international goodwill ambassadors and, since their founding in 1926, they’ve entertained audiences in over 120 different countries. From S.P.I.N, which encourages active playtime for children, to The ABCs of Bullying Prevention, which focuses on qualities of Action, Bravery and Compassion to combat victimisation in schools, the team is dedicated to doing good.

MEET YOUR FAVOURITE PLAYERS: After the game the gracious athletes often stay to greet fans, so you may just get the chance to high-five your favourite star and get their autograph! Check out some of the videos below to get a small taste of the action ahead.
